At Dave Jones, we provide plumbing, HVAC, fire protection and electrical products and services to our customers. We strive to be the company most revered by its people, customers, partners and communities. Our culture is built on a shared commitment to being humble, hungry and smart, and we believe a team with the best culture and the best people will always win.
Position Summary
We're looking for a Safety Engineer to join a team that treats safety as a core part of who we are, not just a checklist. This role supports the development, administration, and implementation of our safety programs, policies, and compliance efforts across both field and office operations. You'll work closely with our Safety Director, safety staff, field employees, Foremen, Project Managers, and Superintendents, helping make sure every person on our jobsites goes home the way they came in.
This position spans three levels (Safety Engineer 1, 2, and 3), with the right fit depending on your experience, the scope of programs you'll own, and how independently you're ready to lead safety initiatives. Wherever you land on that spectrum, what matters most to us is your commitment to the humble, hungry, smart mindset and genuine care for the people you're protecting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct jobsite audits, identify unsafe conditions or behaviors, verify corrective actions, and ensure compliance for high-risk work activities
  • Partner with Crew Leaders and field personnel to troubleshoot safety issues and build solutions that keep work both safe and compliant
  • Support injury management, including directing employees to appropriate medical providers and coordinating modified or restricted-duty return-to-work opportunities
  • Coordinate safety training, including scheduling, new employee orientation, third-party training, and training records
  • Administer the Respiratory Protection Program, including scheduling, fit testing coordination, and recordkeeping
  • Order, stock, transport, inspect, inventory, and distribute safety supplies, PPE, and equipment, and help employees select the right gear
  • Maintain SDS inventories and electronic management systems; inspect fire extinguishers, AEDs, and first aid cabinets, and arrange replacement or repair as needed
  • Review Safety Surveys and Near Miss/Hazard Recognition reports to spot trends and follow-up actions
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
  • Provide technical safety support for the planning and execution of work activities
  • Support continuous improvement of the safety program, including program content, recordkeeping, and reporting
  • Track Toolbox Talk participation and share performance reporting with departments
  • Attend or facilitate safety meetings and lead by example on our safety culture

Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred. Accredited safety credentials, or a combination of education and relevant experience, will be considered.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction and general industry standards, incident investigation methods, and safety compliance practices (depth of knowledge scales with level)
  • Strong communication skills, both for delivering training and writing clear reports, policies, and regulatory correspondence
  • Comfort building credibility with field personnel and leadership, including having direct conversations about safety performance
  • Solid organizational skills to manage documentation, inspection schedules, and compliance records across multiple projects
  • Analytical mindset for identifying hazards, reviewing incident data, and developing practical corrective actions
  • A problem-solver who can assess unsafe field conditions and communicate sustainable solutions
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
