Mercy Hospital is an 82 bed, acute care hospital located in the scenic southwestern Colorado town of Durango. It is the only hospital in Colorado to be rated by Medicare with five stars for overall hospital quality. It is recognized for excellence in orthopedic and spine surgery and for outstanding patient experience and patient safety. Mercy has also received ten consecutive 'A' grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group. Our providers use state-of-the-art technology in an environment designed to promote wellbeing and healing of body, mind, and spirit. Among the many specialty services available at Mercy are emergency care (Level III trauma designation), surgical care, cardiac care (including interventional), Orthopedic and Spine Centers of Excellence, a Family Birthing Center, home care, hospice care and more. Job Summary and Responsibilities

Performs direct observation of the patient to maintain safety. Utilizes specialized training, de-escalation techniques and other interventions as applicable to create a therapeutic and calming environment for patients. Communicates patient mental and/or physical status changes to the primary Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Leader. Assumes personal accountability for organizational mission and core values.
Job Requirements
In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BLS through the American Heart Association required
  • De-escalation training preferred
  • Six months previous CNA or EMT experience preferred
  • Ability to learn new tasks, follow written and verbal instructions, make judgments, work well with a variety of people
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; well organized and able to multi-task
  • Vision sufficient to read medical records, instruments, documentation, and visual changes in client condition
  • Hearing sufficient to interact with client who may be unable to speak at normal voice level
  • Sufficient mobility and dexterity to assist patients with call lights, side rails and to react appropriately to confused or agitated patients until assistance arrives

Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly
