Key responsibilities

Job description

Position Title: Groundskeeper
Classification: Non-exempt
Department: Facilities
Reports To: Manager of Facilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Facilities department you will help to ensure that REHAB patients and their families receive caring and dedicated service at REHAB.
You will be the Groundskeeper and assist with a variety of services. These services include maintaining the appearance and condition of hospital grounds and landscaping with a commitment to delivering high-quality, comprehensive and innovative inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services.
Wage Range: $16.26 - 24.40/hour. The actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills/Experience:
  • Good knowledge of gardening.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written on-the-job assignments and instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally in English to co-workers and staff.
  • Ability to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure: Valid State of Hawaii driver's license

  • Skills/Experience: Previous work experience in gardening, landscaping, sprinkler repairs/service and light maintenance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plants, waters, prunes, trims, weeds and otherwise maintains flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and lawns to promote growth and improve appearance.
  • Cleans grounds using rakes, brooms and other equipment and removes debris including keeping drainage ditches, culverts and storm drains free of obstructions.
  • Installs, repairs and replaces bollards and fencing including posts, gates and metal fabric.
  • Installs, repairs and replaces low voltage landscape lighting and irrigation controls, wiring and devices.
  • Maintains driveways and parking areas including painting stripes and marking and patching holes and pavement undermined by heavy vehicles and rainfall.
  • Repairs damage to existing rock walls, sidewalks and other outdoor masonry features.
  • Inspects hospital grounds, driveways and perimeter fences for any safety hazards and reports findings to the supervisor.
  • Maintains and performs minor repairs to electric and gas powered landscaping equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports, as required, including equipment and system operational logs and records; material and purchasing requests; work requests dispositions.
  • Uses sound judgment and ensures patient safety.
  • Follows and adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and guidelines, code of conduct, and REHAB employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
