Job description

Purpose:
The Materials Manager is responsible for leading the people and managing the processes and equipment associated with the Warehouse, Shipping, Scheduling and Customer Service of the Laurinburg Glass Facility. The main objective is to drive continuous learning through training and process improvements, thus promoting a safe and efficient work environment. The Materials Manager is responsible and accountable for managing all aspects of the operation with respect to the areas of responsibility.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop and maintain departmental safety rules and safe work practices ensuring that each employee is working in a safe environment. Enforce safety rules and work practices within each department and conduct appropriate safety training.
  • Manage the packaging and material flow operations.
  • Manage the facility scheduling function to ensure delivery to promise while maximizing production output.
  • Continually improve the process in the key areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure that we maintain and update packaging manuals, so we are conforming to corporate packaging standards.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of packaging materials, procedures, and techniques in conjunction with packaging engineers. Work with the packaging vendors to maintain container quality and on time delivery.
  • Work with our transportation partners and logistics management to develop procedures to ensure that we have claim free on time delivery of products to our customers.

  • Ensure we optimize the warehouse storage areas ensuring that we have the capacity to produce and stock all standard SKUs.
  • Manage departmental expenses to meet departmental budgets, consistently working with department employees to create cost reduction projects.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with all manufacturing departments. Work with inside sales group for customer shipments and delivery requirements.
  • Work with domestic and export sales teams to ensure accurate forecasts.
  • Manage our customer service department ensuring we are promoting a "Customer First" organization
  • Work with plant leadership team regarding overall plant performance, safety, environmental, production, finance, human resources, quality, and materials issues.
  • Work with other plants on common transportation, warehousing, and packaging issues.
  • Work with customers to improve their on-time, claim-free delivery of product.
  • Provide training to internal and external customers for rack loading, unloading and stacking/handling
  • Maintain and annually assess all Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) documents to ensure facility compliance and validation. Become the C-PAT Facility Leader.
