Job description

Transportation Coordinator

The Transportation Coordinator is a full-time position reporting to the Lead Transportation Supervisor and supports nightly campus transportation operations by serving as the primary coordination point for drivers, students, and the Department of Public Safety (DPS). This role provides real-time operational direction for Fixed Route Shuttle Service and Safety Escort Service, schedule coordination, and resolution of service issues, while ensuring safe, efficient, reliable service delivery. Responsibilities include monitoring daily transportation activity, conducting vehicle inspections, completing operational audits, submitting maintenance work orders, and supporting ongoing communication, coordination, and problem-solving in a fast-paced operational environment.

Education and Experience: Two-year degree or similar transportation dispatch logistics.

Skills and Knowledge: Experience in transportation coordination, or a similar operations-based role preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of transportation operations, DOT regulations, and safety standards preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong attention to detail with the ability to learn and apply procedures quickly. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events as required. Multi-task in a high-volume, community and student service centered environment.

Responsibilities: Responsible for active coordination of transportation services including Fixed Route and Safety Escort operations. Prioritizes incoming communications, responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, makes time-sensitive operational decisions, and resolves service disruptions to ensure continuity and efficiency of transportation services. Monitors daily transportation activity including driver routes, schedules, breaks, check-ins, vehicle usage, on-time performance, and video-streaming systems. Identifies operational issues, delays, or irregularities and takes corrective action or escalates as needed. Performs administrative responsibilities including data entry, record maintenance, scheduling support, overtime/event coordination, documentation, equipment tracking, maintenance/service requests, and report preparation to support operational continuity. Other duties as assigned.
