Job description

Provides security and safety services to the District by assisting in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment, throughout assigned school property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Patrols area of school District in uniform and marked police vehicle to detect and prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entries
  • Respond to silent alarms and other calls for service
  • Performs crowd and traffic control, on APS property only, at school events and activities
  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of school-related criminal acts
  • Arrests suspects following established procedures and testifies in court proceedings
  • Investigates suspicious persons, activities and conditions related to the public
  • Performs plain-clothes assignments as requested by an immediate supervisor
  • Counsels students in matters of good citizenship and compliance with school rules and proper behavior
  • Provides general assistance and support to school administration and staff
  • Reports unusual or dangerous conditions or situations to appropriate personnel

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
  • Ability to make decisions, enforce APS Policy, state statues, and ordinances.
  • Effecting arrests and detaining and using appropriate physical control, if necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must Have Current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with insurable driving record.
  • Knowledge of State Statute and local Ordinances
