Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking Piping Designers for upcoming hybrid and remote opportunities. In this role, you will be a key driver in developing high-quality 2D/3D piping layouts, routing, and equipment configurations. Projects span state-of-the-art industrial, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical/biotech, and oil & gas/midstream facilities.

We are looking for candidates across a broad spectrum of experience—from execution-focused modelers to seasoned professionals capable of leading multi-office global workshare teams, managing scope, and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • 3D Modeling & Layout: Develop detailed piping layouts, routing, and facility equipment arrangements using advanced 3D modeling software.
  • Technical Design & Cross-Discipline Coordination: Apply core piping design fundamentals (pipe sizing, routing, spec application, and stress considerations) while collaborating seamlessly with structural, electrical, and mechanical teams.
  • Vendor & Spec Review: Review vendor drawings, incorporate equipment data into master models, and assist with specification management and QA/QC workflows.
  • Project Controls & Scope Management: Monitor project scope, track earned value/progress measurement, and promptly identify and communicate design changes that impact hours or deliverables.
  • Team Collaboration & Global Execution: Support person-hour estimates, lead multi-discipline design tasks, collaborate across global workshare environments, and utilize your technical expertise to mentor other team members.

Position Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 5 to 15+ years of piping design experience in industrial, heavy commercial, advanced manufacturing, or oil & gas facilities.
  • Education: Associate’s degree (AA) in Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Design Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Software Mastery: Advanced working knowledge and proficiency in 2D/3D modeling software, specifically AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or Hexagon SmartPlant 3D (S3D).
  • Design Savvy: Strong understanding of piping specs, equipment layouts, and the ability to interpret complex technical data.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.

Ideally, You Will Also Have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience specifically within pharmaceutical, biotech, advanced manufacturing, or oil & gas/midstream sectors.
  • Strong familiarity with pipe stress analysis integration.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multi-office global workshare execution environments.
  • A forward-thinking mindset with an eagerness to learn best practices and contribute innovative design ideas.
