MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
SUMMARY
The primary function of the Instructor position is to be an active member and leader of the clinical and research team and to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, assist, and supervise the implementation of clinical and research projects, the evaluation and interpretation of research data, and the quality of resulting publications.
• Scope: Perform clinical and research activities in a mentored leadership role of an active clinical and research team for immunotherapies and vaccines, with the goal of developing into an independent clinical investigator.
• The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
o Prior expertise and knowledge in clinical research protocols, processing of human and mouse blood and tissue samples, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, flow cytometry, and tissue culture.
o Strong and the comprehensive background in cancer research.
o Commitment to write and submit competitive grant applications as principal investigator or co-investigator under the oversight of a research mentor.
o Aspiration and resourcefulness to achieve greater scientific independence through the development of collaborative research projects.
o Participate in the training of clinical and research, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, graduate, medical and college students, as well as laboratory technicians.
o A collaborative and friendly member/leader of a large cancer research group including research scientists, clinicians, statisticians, trainees, and supportive staff.

KEYFUNCTIONS
1. Participate in patient care services in the outpatient setting and/or inpatient service to further develop clinical skills in the areas of lymphoma and/or myeloma.
2. Impact the quality and advancement of cancer research efforts within the Department and MD Anderson Cancer Center with a primary focus on Lymphoma / Myeloma.
3. Plan, organize, direct, assist, and participate in experiments and assays related to clinical patient research samples, animal models and in vitro studies in a research laboratory.
4. Develop novel independent research projects.
5. Develop and maintain standard procedures and clinical protocols to ensure the quality and integrity of procedures performed and the overall operation of the laboratory.
6. Exercise considerable initiative in planning and executing the details of experiments and in evaluating and interpreting the results. Responsible for the participation and involvement of other laboratory members and collaborators in the development of laboratory techniques and research projects. Provide expertise, knowledge, or techniques to troubleshoot problems.
7. Participate in laboratory meetings to present research findings to colleagues. Potential to attend academic conferences or meetings for oral or visual production of posters.
8. Participate in the guidance, teaching, supervision, and assistance of trainees, collaborators, and laboratory members to accomplish research or other laboratory duties as required.
9. Produces manuscripts, research proposals and grant funding, and collaborates with laboratory members to reinforce expertise and advance research objectives including the publication of articles and presentations at scientific meetings.
10. All conducted projects require review literature, experimental design, alternative approaches, organization, timeline, coordination, data interpretation, future directions and monthly progress report to immediate supervisor.
11. Comply with all policies and procedures.
