How much do rv salesman jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 27, 2026, the average yearly pay for rv salesman in the United States is $54,620.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $33,500.00 and $60,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does an RV salesman do?

An RV salesman is a professional who helps customers buy new or used recreational vehicles (RVs) such as motorhomes, travel trailers, and campers. They guide customers through the selection process, explain features and financing options, and coordinate test drives or walkthroughs. RV salesmen also handle negotiations, complete paperwork, and may provide after-sale support or service referrals. Their goal is to match customers with the right RV based on their needs and budget.

What is the average commission for an RV salesman?

The average commission for an RV salesman typically ranges from 10% to 20% of the gross profit on each sale. Commission rates can vary based on dealership policies, sales experience, and the price of the RVs sold. Many RV salespeople also receive a base salary or bonuses in addition to commissions.

What type of salesman makes the most money?

In sales roles, those specializing in high-value or complex products such as medical equipment, software, or industrial machinery tend to earn the highest incomes due to larger commissions and sales margins. Additionally, experienced and top-performing salespeople with strong negotiation skills and industry knowledge typically earn more than entry-level or volume-based sales roles.

Which state is number one in RV sales?

For RV sales professionals, the state with the highest RV sales volume is California. This reflects the large market size and high demand for recreational vehicles in that state, making it a key area for RV dealerships and sales jobs. Salespeople should be familiar with regional market trends and customer preferences in high-volume areas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RV Salesman, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RV Salesman, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge about RVs, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CRM software, dealership inventory systems, and financing tools is often required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, active listening, and persuasive communication help build trust with customers and close sales. These abilities are crucial for understanding customer needs, effectively presenting options, and achieving sales targets in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Rv Salesman vs RV Service Technician?

AspectRV SalesmanRV Service Technician
CredentialsSales experience, knowledge of RV features, sometimes certifications in sales or product knowledgeTechnical certifications, RV repair training, mechanical skills
Work EnvironmentShowroom, dealership, outdoor sales eventsService bays, repair shops, outdoor service areas
Employer & Industry UsageRV dealerships, sales companiesRV service centers, repair shops, dealerships

While both roles involve working within the RV industry, an RV Salesman focuses on selling RVs and customer relations, whereas an RV Service Technician specializes in repairing and maintaining RVs. They require different skill sets and certifications but often work closely in the same dealership environment.

What are some common challenges faced by RV salesmen during the sales process?

RV salesmen often encounter challenges such as understanding the diverse needs of customers, handling complex financing options, and staying updated on various RV models and features. Additionally, building trust with customers—who may be making a significant investment—requires strong product knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills. Success in this role often depends on the ability to provide personalized recommendations and guide buyers through a sometimes lengthy decision-making process, all while collaborating closely with the service, finance, and management teams.

Do RV salesmen make good money?

RV salesmen can earn a base salary plus commissions, with total earnings often ranging from $40,000 to over $100,000 annually depending on experience, location, and sales performance. Successful salespeople with strong product knowledge and customer service skills tend to earn higher incomes in this role.
