What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Rust position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Developer, you need strong programming abilities in Rust, a solid understanding of systems programming concepts, and typically a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Cargo, Git, and CI/CD pipelines, as well as knowledge of platforms such as Linux, is often expected. Excellent problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help developers excel when working on complex software projects within teams. These skills are crucial for building robust, high-performance applications while ensuring maintainability and scalability in demanding technology environments.

What is a Rust job?

A Rust job typically involves developing software using the Rust programming language, which is known for its memory safety, performance, and concurrency features. Rust developers work on system programming, web assembly, backend services, and embedded systems. Many Rust jobs are in industries requiring high-performance and secure applications, such as finance, blockchain, and networking. Employers look for proficiency in Rust, knowledge of software development best practices, and experience with related tools and frameworks.

What are the most common challenges faced by Rust Developers in their day-to-day work?

Rust Developers often encounter challenges related to borrowing and ownership concepts, which are core features that ensure memory safety but can also make debugging and designing programs more difficult for those new to the language. Additionally, as Rust is still relatively young compared to some other languages, developers may face limited third-party library support or need to contribute to open-source tools themselves. However, working in teams allows for knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving, making it easier to overcome these obstacles. Embracing a growth mindset and participating in the active Rust community can help developers quickly adapt and thrive in this evolving field.

Job description

A rapidly growing data-driven technology organization within the property intelligence space is seeking a Senior Software/Data Engineer to help architect and scale a next-generation analytics platform.
This role centers on building highly reliable distributed systems and high-throughput data pipelines that transform large-scale datasets into actionable insights for enterprise-level users. You will take ownership of data transport, transformation, modeling, and observability initiatives while driving architectural decisions that prioritize performance, scalability, and data integrity.
The environment is deeply technical and focused on modern engineering practices, leveraging technologies such as Python, Kafka, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse to support complex, real-time data workloads. This position is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous infrastructure and data challenges while influencing platform direction and engineering standards.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven expertise designing and operating distributed systems with strong understanding of consistency models, idempotent processing, consensus concepts, and fault-tolerant architecture patterns.
  • Deep database engineering experience, including schema architecture, indexing strategies, query optimization, and working knowledge of both transactional and analytical data platforms such as PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redshift, or DynamoDB.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing scalable ETL/ELT and streaming data systems using technologies such as Kafka, Pulsar, or Kinesis, combined with advanced Python development skills and Kubernetes-based CI/CD workflows.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience with lower-level or performance-focused programming languages such as Rust, Go, or C++.
  • Understanding of serialization frameworks and compression technologies including Protobuf and FlatBuffers.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure design, AWS ecosystem services, and data governance or compliance-oriented engineering practices.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Engineering: 65%
  • Team Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work: 35%

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in United States on a full-time basis now and in the future.
