What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Software Developer, you need a solid background in systems programming, memory management, and proficiency in Rust, often supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Cargo, and experience with cross-platform development are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set outstanding candidates apart. These abilities are essential for building safe, efficient, and reliable software in demanding technical environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Rust Software Developers when working on large-scale projects?

Rust Software Developers often encounter challenges related to managing complex codebases, especially as projects scale. The language's strict ownership and borrowing rules, while beneficial for safety and concurrency, can make refactoring and integrating with legacy systems more time-consuming. Additionally, since Rust is still a relatively new language, developers may face limited library support or community resources for certain specialized tasks. Collaborating closely with teammates and leveraging thorough documentation helps to streamline workflows and overcome these hurdles.

What is a Rust Software Developer?

A Rust Software Developer is a programmer who specializes in using the Rust programming language to build software applications. Rust is known for its focus on safety, speed, and concurrency, making it popular for systems programming, web services, and performance-critical tasks. Rust Software Developers may work on a variety of projects, from operating systems and embedded devices to backend web servers and command-line tools. Their responsibilities include writing, testing, and maintaining code, as well as collaborating with other developers to design robust and efficient systems.

Job description

Description:

Augeo is a global leader in loyalty and engagement technology, known for delivering data-driven programs that strengthen relationships and drive meaningful business results.

We’re redefining how brands connect with the people they serve, bringing together intelligence, behavior, and innovation to create more timely, meaningful engagement at scale. With the power of AI, we’re unlocking capabilities that were never before possible - unifying experiences, incentives, recognition, and advocacy into predictive systems that move at the speed of people. All in service of a bold mission: to decode human motivation and make loyalty the world’s most trusted currency. For the right person, this is a chance to step into a company with a strong foundation, bold ambition, and the opportunity to help define the future of loyalty.

Summary

Augeo is building an agentic loyalty platform that will power personalized engagement for tens of millions of users. Always on, context-aware, and extensible by design, the platform delivers an "Audience of One" experience where every interaction makes the system smarter. We are hiring engineers with exceptional architectural judgment, deep product ownership experience, and an AI-forward mindset to join the team building it.

Working closely with a product leader to define the requirements, you will own a product domain end to end: from the requirements to the design, implementation, tests, deployment, and outcomes. You will manage teams of AI agents and be responsible for defining what they know, how they reason, and what they can do. The agents handle the execution while you provide the judgment and domain expertise.

This is a startup inside a company with a history of bold bets and decades-long track record of innovation-driven growth. If the agentic transformation of software is something you want to lead, not watch, this is the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will own a product capability end to end, from architectural decisions through production outcomes, cutting through every layer: entry points, orchestration, intelligence, tools, data, and observability. Your work directly shapes how Augeo's clients engage tens of millions of users.
  • You will build and ship mission-critical AI agents that drive revenue growth across finance, healthcare, telecom, and commerce. Not proof-of-concepts. Powerful, scalable systems running in production.
  • Define how AI agents are built at Augeo. Drive the Agent Development Life Cycle (ADLC) from initial pilot through production iteration, setting the standard for how agents are developed, tested, evaluated, and improved.
  • Build the shared platform: agent orchestration, agentic workflows, ML models, and data infrastructure that every product team at Augeo builds on.
  • Work across Augeo with engineers, product leads, and end users to understand needs, close feedback loops, and ensure the platform compounds with every interaction.
  • Shape the team. Participate in hiring and define the culture of an engineering org that is AI-native from day one.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years owning technical direction for a team, product, or company
  • Demonstrated ability to own a product domain end to end: from defining what to build through shipping and operating it in production
  • Experience putting AI-powered systems into production: LLM integration, prompt engineering, tool calling, RAG, evaluation, and orchestration
  • Strong systems design and architectural judgment across distributed systems, APIs, and data pipelines
  • A builder’s mindset with high agency - you find creative ways to overcome obstacles and launch products
  • Daily, fluent use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) as a primary way of working
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction in a flat, fast-moving team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building loyalty, fintech, marketing, or commerce platforms
  • Familiarity with our technical stack: Rust, TypeScript, AWS
  • Familiarity with agentic tools and technologies: agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, context engineering, and eval frameworks
  • Experience with multi-tenant platform architecture and data isolation
  • Background in ML/data science: predictive models, personalization, optimization

While our team is based in St. Paul, MN, we welcome strong candidates from across the U.S.

Benefits of joining team Augeo

  • We offer Medical, Dental and Vision coverage with additional perks through third party vendors offering more virtual and in person care at your fingertips (must be in select locations)
  • We offer paid Long-Term disability and Life Insurance
  • HSA/FSA plans
  • We offer varying voluntary benefits such as critical, hospital, pet coverage and much more
  • Employee benefit education, campaigns and wellness opportunities
  • 401k retirement matching and financial planning resources
  • Education reimbursement
  • Several EAP resources
  • 13 paid holidays and PTO time
  • Rewards, incentives and gamification for birthdays, Work-aversery's, professional and personal milestones, company involvement and kudos
  • Employee referral bonuses
  • Employee group opportunities
  • Fun, casual and flexible working environment that embraces the hybrid workstyle
  • Career growth opportunities
  • Summer internship program
