About The Team
SmartThings is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join the Device Core (DC) Team. The DC team develops the core APIs used by all devices on our platform to control, react to, onboard, and list devices. If high volume systems critical to customer success excite you, then this opportunity is for you!  This team is at the center of our IoT strategy, which continuously evolves to meet customer expectations, new standards, compliance and certification requirements, and business growth. In this role you'd have the opportunity to work on high-impact projects in a fast-paced, high visibility environment with a team of high performing engineers.
This role is hybrid, 3 days/week in our Minneapolis Office (on iconic St Anthony Main across from Downtown...with attached parking at no cost to you!)
The pay range for this role is $97,000 to $132,000, with an annual bonus target of 20%.
As a member of the Device Core Team, you will contribute to:
  • Implementing microservices surrounding devices, the device's last known state, and their events. 
  • Being attentive to devices, event volume and user requests (~250M /hr) as well as help implement corrective measures for scalability, reliability and performance.
  • Abstracting the basic building blocks of a device into reusable pieces on the platform.
  • Facilitating the many ways a device can be incorporated into a user account.
  • Maintaining the communication between the device and the SmartThings platform.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS or MS Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience demonstrating proficiency in Java, Kotlin, object-oriented design, and/or C-based/inspired programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, C++, Rust, etc.
  • Exposure to modern non-blocking/asynchronous server frameworks like Micronaut, Sprint Boot, Node.js, Spring WebFlux, etc.
  • Comfortable developing and understanding of an existing codebase in order to implement new features.
  • Experience with microservice architecture and service-to-service interconnectability.
  • Experience with Linux systems.
  • Experience in developing RESTful APIs.
  • Experience operating production services in a cloud-based environment like AWS or GCP.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with asynchronous server-side programming.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such DynamoDB.
  • Experience with Kafka.
  • Experience with IoT device applications.

Base compensation range for this position is $97,000 to $132,000 base within this range will depend on many factors including experience, skills, technical expertise and market alignment. In addition, this role is eligible for a 20% annual target bonus based heavily on individual performance.
