Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding Rust's role vs C++ in development

Rust Software developers focus on safe, concurrent programming using Rust, often in modern systems and web assembly projects. C++ Developers work primarily with performance-critical applications across various industries. While both roles require programming expertise, Rust emphasizes safety and modern syntax, whereas C++ is known for its performance and legacy codebases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Software Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Software Developer, you need a solid background in systems programming, memory management, and proficiency in Rust, often supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, build tools such as Cargo, and experience with cross-platform development are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set outstanding candidates apart. These abilities are essential for building safe, efficient, and reliable software in demanding technical environments.

What is a Rust Software Developer?

A Rust Software Developer is a programmer who specializes in using the Rust programming language to build software applications. Rust is known for its focus on safety, speed, and concurrency, making it popular for systems programming, web services, and performance-critical tasks. Rust Software Developers may work on a variety of projects, from operating systems and embedded devices to backend web servers and command-line tools. Their responsibilities include writing, testing, and maintaining code, as well as collaborating with other developers to design robust and efficient systems.

What are some common challenges faced by Rust Software Developers when working on large-scale projects?

Rust Software Developers often encounter challenges related to managing complex codebases, especially as projects scale. The language's strict ownership and borrowing rules, while beneficial for safety and concurrency, can make refactoring and integrating with legacy systems more time-consuming. Additionally, since Rust is still a relatively new language, developers may face limited library support or community resources for certain specialized tasks. Collaborating closely with teammates and leveraging thorough documentation helps to streamline workflows and overcome these hurdles.

Job description

Credera is a global consulting firm that combines transformational consulting capabilities, deep industry knowledge, AI and technology expertise to deliver valuable customer experiences and accelerated growth across various industries. We continuously evolve our services to meet the needs of future organizations and reflect modern best practices. Our unique global approach provides tailored solutions, transforming the most influential brands and organizations worldwide.
Our employees, the lifeblood of our company, are passionate about making an extraordinary impact on our clients, colleagues, and communities. This passion drives how we spend our time, resources, and talents. Our commitment to our people and work has been recognized globally.
As an Architect in our Software Engineering Capability, you act as the primary architect and technical lead on client engagements. You scope and estimate work, model solutions against business requirements, and serve as the senior technical voice in client communications. You guide teams (typically 2 to 8) building software and cloud solutions across product engineering for client digital products, platform engineering and internal developer platforms, AI-native and agentic systems, and modernization of legacy estates. You set the technical direction, raise the bar on engineering quality, and make sure what your team ships actually works in production.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Architect and deliver production systems across the modern web and cloud stack, including frameworks like Angular, React, and Next.js on the front end, Spring Boot, .NET, and Python services on the back end, deployed on AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Lead engagements building agentic AI systems, designing for evals, guardrails, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over enterprise knowledge via MCP, built on cloud-native agent platforms such as AgentCore, Bedrock, Strands, and Vertex
  • Solve data problems in service of product outcomes, whether that's a traditional analytics workload or preparing enterprise data to be retrievable and trustworthy for AI systems
  • Design and implement cloud-native APIs and automate infrastructure as code with Terraform, with observability and operability designed in from day one rather than bolted on later
  • Establish the engineering foundation for new engagements by defining branching and release strategy, CI/CD, environment topology, and the delivery patterns your team will live with for the duration of the project
  • Engage directly with clients and stakeholders to surface requirements, frame trade-offs, and keep the technical solution connected to the business outcome
  • Own the technical narrative with client leadership by leading architecture reviews, demos, and the conversations where a technical decision needs to be made legible to a non-technical executive
  • Develop the people on your team and across the practice through hands-on mentorship, R&D, peer training, and building reusable solution accelerators

WHO YOU ARE
  • You are an experienced, hands-on software architect with at least 6 years in technology consulting or comparable industry experience
  • You spend at least 40% of your time on hands-on technical work, including writing code, steering and reviewing AI-generated code, building proofs of concept, and unblocking your team
  • You stay current on the application development landscape across UX, services, and data layers, and have working depth in more than one stack rather than a single specialty
  • You have led the build of complex, high-volume, mission-critical systems and understand the trade-offs between common software development methodologies well enough to pick the right one for the engagement
  • You communicate effectively at both the engineering and executive levels, and can navigate the organizational dynamics of a client engagement to keep delivery on track
  • You have working experience across most of the following languages: Java, .NET, Rust, client- and server-side JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Angular, Node.js), and Python
  • You have working experience across one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), along with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless runtimes
  • You have working experience with modern DevOps and automation tooling, including CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), infrastructure as code with Terraform, automated testing with tools like Playwright or Cypress, and database change management with Liquibase
  • You treat AI as a core part of the toolkit, incorporating coding assistants and agentic tooling into your everyday workflow
  • You ideally have a working understanding of modern AI engineering patterns, including agentic system design, evals, guardrails, RAG, and MCP, and can lead the design and build of agentic systems on your engagements

HOW WE USE AI TO ENHANCE OUR WORK
We believe in using the best tools for the job. AI isn't a replacement for great software engineering. It's a powerful accelerator. As part of our team, you'll use AI to enhance your day-to-day development and contribute to client solutions on the leading edge of what AI in production can actually do.
  • AI-Assisted Engineering: You'll have access to industry-leading AI coding assistants to boost productivity and code quality. We adopt the tools that fit the project and align with each client's ecosystem.
  • Accelerated Design & Strategy: You can use OmniAI, our proprietary multi-LLM platform, to accelerate solution design, architecture, and estimation in a secure environment.
  • Advanced AI Engagements: For clients seeking a competitive edge, you may lead the build of agentic systems with proper evals and guardrails, RAG over enterprise knowledge using MCP, and production agent platforms built on services such as AgentCore, Bedrock, Strands, and Vertex.
  • Continuous Learning: We invest in keeping our engineers ahead of the curve through internal communities, peer learning, and dedicated time to explore emerging tools and patterns.
