Job description

Technique is looking for a Powder Coat General Operator to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Department Manager in the Powder Coat department. This role involves a progressive use of various painting techniques including powder coat, wet paint spraying, Cerakote, hydro dip, and other techniques on various materials. The employee will be responsible for material preparation such as sand blasting, cleaning, dipping, and masking, and must be committed to safe work practices as defined within company and department-specific safety procedures.
The ideal candidate is eager to learn and grow within a powder coat environment, with a willingness to operate equipment, read blueprints, and follow quality standards. Experience with lift truck operation or the ability to obtain a license is a plus, along with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality, on-time results.
Responsibilities:
  • Learn and train within the department - Develop skills by observing, learning, and training within the Powder Coat department.
  • Prepare parts for coating - Load and unload paint booth conveyors; clean parts and remove unwanted debris or rust.
  • Apply powder coat - Follow all principles and practices of powder coat application.
  • Operate coating equipment - Learn to operate hand grinders, sanders, and all coating equipment including guns, hoppers, and booth collection systems, as well as measure parts with basic quality tools.
  • Operate lift truck - Operate a lift truck or learn and obtain a lift truck license.
  • Monitor equipment and detect defects - Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to learn how to detect defects.
  • Ensure quality and on-time performance - Ensure all components are produced and coated efficiently, consistent with company-established goals for quality and customer on-time order performance.
  • Maintain painting equipment - Train on the mechanics and repair of painting equipment, including proper cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Use job travelers - Learn and use job travelers to track and document production work.
  • Read blueprints - Apply basic blueprint reading skills to support production and quality requirements.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or finishing environment preferred
  • Ability to learn and follow powder coat application principles and practices
  • Basic blueprint reading skills
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a lift truck (lift truck license preferred)
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work safely and follow all company and department safety procedures
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including ability to work overtime as required
  • This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and the ability to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and finishing chemicals
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Position Type and Expected Hours:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime opportunities available.
Shifts include:
  • 2nd Shift - Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM ($1.00 shift premium per hour)
