These companies often seek candidates with knowledge of Rust tools, such as Cargo, and experience in concurrent programming and low-level system development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Rust Developer Internship position, and why are they important?

A Rust Developer Internship typically requires a foundational understanding of Rust programming, knowledge of systems programming concepts, and experience with version control systems like Git. Familiarity with development tools such as Cargo, command-line interfaces, and basic debugging methods is expected, while formal certifications are less common but a portfolio or relevant coursework is advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, effective communication, and teamwork elevate an intern's potential in this collaborative environment. What is a Rust Developer Internship job?

A Rust Developer Internship is a temporary position designed for students or entry-level developers to gain hands-on experience working with the Rust programming language. Interns typically assist in developing, testing, and debugging Rust applications, often contributing to open-source projects or company software. They may work alongside experienced developers to learn best practices and improve their coding skills. This internship helps build a strong foundation in systems programming, performance optimization, and memory safety.

Is 22 too old for an internship?

There is no age limit for a Rust Developer Internship, and many companies value skills and enthusiasm over age. Candidates of all ages, including 22, can successfully apply if they have relevant programming knowledge and are eager to learn new technologies like Rust.

What types of projects do Rust Developer Interns typically work on during their internship?

Rust Developer Interns often contribute to backend infrastructure, tools, or application features, working on tasks such as optimizing code, fixing bugs, adding functionality, or writing documentation. Depending on the company, you may collaborate on open-source initiatives, assist in maintenance of production systems, or help build new services from the ground up. Interns frequently participate in code reviews, team meetings, and cross-functional brainstorming sessions, ensuring exposure to professional workflows. This hands-on environment is designed to strengthen your programming skills while giving you valuable experience in real-world software development practices.

Is $20 an hour good for an internship?

For a Rust Developer Internship, earning $20 an hour is generally considered competitive, especially for entry-level positions or internships that require basic programming skills. Internships often pay less than full-time roles, but rates can vary based on location, company size, and required skills such as familiarity with Rust and related tools.

Job description

Overview
Susquehanna is looking for highly motivated full-time students for our 10-week trading system engineering summer internship program. This is a computationally intensive role that will allow you to use your strong technical skills to solve problems at the intersection of trading, data, and technology.
Throughout the summer, you will receive education about how markets work by going through a deep dive into financial markets and Susquehanna's approach to trading. You will also work on challenging projects for our trading strategy development teams in low latency C++ trading system development. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to work on projects side by side with senior developers who understand the nuances of building complex trading strategies.
If your experience is a better fit for our 2027 Quantitative Strategy Development Internship, apply here: https://careers.sig.com/job/10838/Quantitative-Strategy-Developer-Internship-Summer-2027
What we're looking for
  • Enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or closely related STEM discipline
  • Strong software development skills in C++, C, Rust, C#, or Java, and some Python experience.
  • Intention to graduate with a minimum of a bachelor's degree and begin full time employment by August 2028
  • Exceptional logical reasoning skills
  • Visa sponsorship is available for this position.

What's in it for you:
  • Our non-hierarchical culture allows employees of every level to thrive and make impact. We are not your typical trading firm - the environment is casual, collaborative and we focus on continuous development.
  • Housing provided for duration of internship
  • Relaxed dress code: jeans and sneakers are the norm, shorts all summer long
  • Fully stocked kitchens for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages
  • A forty thousand square-foot state of the art fitness facility with brand-new equipment, multi-purpose courts, group exercise classes, and locker room spaces
  • Discounts for dining, entertainment, shopping, travel, and attractions
Social events including a poker tournament, dinners, and sporting events in Philadelphia
    On-site Wellness Center
  • On-site services such as a mailroom, barber, dry cleaning, and car maintenance
  • Opportunities to give back to the community through Susquehanna sponsored events and donation drives
