Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineering Intern will support the engineering team in the development, testing, documentation, and execution of engineering projects. This role provides hands on experience in a professional engineering environment and exposure to real world problem solving, cross functional collaboration, and engineering workflows. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and contribute to ongoing projects aligned with their academic background.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist engineers with requirements development, design, analysis, testing, and validation activities.
  • Perform data collection, data analysis, and documentation for engineering studies.
  • Support the creation and revision of documentation, specifications, and procedures.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and process improvement efforts.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project updates as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and operations.
  • Follow all safety, compliance, and quality standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in physics, engineering (mechanical, electrical, systems, industrial, software, or related discipline), or other technical degree programs.
  • Familiarity with programming or simulation tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Exposure to engineering documentation, test equipment, or lab environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office environment.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
