Warehouse Specialist I - Entry Level
Looking for a stable job with reliable weekday hours? This entry level position is located at the Rusk State Hospital warehouse, but Supply Services also serves patients/residents at 22 other facilities around the State, so there are opportunities for growth and movement to other parts of Texas if desired.
The Warehouse Specialist I is a key position for Supply Services with essential functions offering opportunities to gain experience assuring the patients/residents we serve are supplied with their needed supplies for daily living. The Warehouse Specialist I reports to the Warehouse Supervisor, Supply Services. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Warehouse Specialist I performs logistical inventory and warehouse work. Work involves electronically controlling inventory and delivering goods to state facilities. Tasks include inspecting incoming goods, receiving, processing, and storing incoming stock, pulling orders from inventory, delivering goods, conducting inventory counting, and maintaining a safe and secure environment. Position requires use of multiple computer software systems, handheld devices for inventory control and warehouse lifting equipment (forklift, pallet jacks, carts, drive truck with lift gate). Must actively participate and/or serve in a Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
  1. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency and departmental leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Reviews system generated picking tickets for logical bin picking order and planned delivery dates to assigned units using material handling equipment. Verifies items to be picked to affixed labels on warehouse bins. Picks, verifies and makes notations on the pick ticket. Loads carts with picked items for safe maneuvering. Stages loaded carts in outgoing warehouse location. (30%)

  1. Loads and unloads warehouse stock using lifting equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies). Puts away warehouse stock into assigned racking and shelving. Delivers stock and non-stock items to ordering departments using a state vehicle (box truck, van, pickup, UTV) in a timely manner. (20%)

  1. Unloads vendor freight trucks verifying shipments with purchase orders and other shipping documents. Uses lifting equipment, dock plates and dock levelers to safely move items from trucks to the warehouse. Inspects, counts and checks items for compliance or damage, making notations on documents in accordance with the Supply Services SharePoint Procedures System Receiving policies and Operating Instructions. (20%

  1. Enters data into the MIMS automated inventory control computer program for inventory tracking purposes. Assist with conducting inventories, reconciling variances and maintaining inventory of warehouse stock supplies. (15%)

  1. Enters data into the CAPPS Financial system to provide accurate and timely receiving of warehouse stock and nonstock items. (10%)

  1. Participates in COOP plan and other duties as assigned. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of general warehouse operations to include shipping, receiving, issuing, customer service and inventory control.
Ability in the use of mechanical lifting devices used in warehouse operations to move, transfer and deliver goods.
Ability to review warehouse rules, regulations, and policies for compliance and to follow departmental policy instructions for inventory control guidelines.
Ability to use a handheld device for the purpose of managing warehouse stock and receiving goods.
Skill in use of operating a computer using inventory control and receiving software.
Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Valid Class C Drivers License (Texas Drivers License preferred) to be checked yearly for any violations or suspensions.
Forklift Driver Training - SAF0100, completion required within three (3) months of employment.
Initial Screening Criteria:
1.Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
2.Work experience in the use of a computer using inventory control and receiving software or similar systems.
3.Work experience in a warehouse/inventory control related field preferred.
4.Prior experience in the use of forklift and other material handling equipment or similar experience preferred.
