Job description

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Venture and growth equity manager with $10+ billion in assets under management, investing in leading private technology companies across artificial intelligence, space, defence technology and next generation infrastructure. The firm operates with a small, senior team and maintains institutional grade relationships across audit, tax, fund administration and banking.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Management Company Accountant to assume full ownership of the accounting function. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will serve as the single accountable owner of the management company general ledger, its payables and billing cycles, its intercompany positions, and its budgeting and forecasting process. The role is scoped to the management company. Fund accounting, SPV administration, investor reporting and the annual fund audit are owned by a separate senior member of the finance team, which is intended to allow the successful candidate to maintain complete and uninterrupted control of the management company books.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ownership of the management company books
  • Maintain the general ledger on a continuous basis, so that cash, payables, receivables, intercompany balances and accruals are accurate at any point in the month rather than only at period end.
  • Own the monthly close end to end, working to a documented cadence and a committed delivery date agreed with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Prepare and review all balance sheet reconciliations, and maintain a monthly close binder retained in a condition suitable for review by auditors or tax advisors without further preparation.
  • Produce the monthly reporting package for the Chief Financial Officer and partners, comprising the profit and loss statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows and budget versus actual analysis with written variance commentary.
  • Maintain a complete and current intercompany ledger spanning the management company, the general partner entities, the flagship funds and the SPV complex, including detailed tracking of each intercompany loan and its interest accrual.
  • Administer the expense allocation and reimbursement cycle between the management company and the funds in accordance with the governing agreements.
  • Own all firm billing, encompassing management fee invoicing to every fund vehicle, expense reimbursements due from the funds and SPVs, intercompany charges and any third party billing, together with the accounts receivable ledger and collection cycle.
  • Administer the accounts payable cycle end to end, covering invoice intake, coding, allocation between the management company and the funds, approval routing and payment execution.
  • Administer the firm’s Ramp corporate card programme, including card issuance, spending controls, transaction coding and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Build the annual management company operating budget in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer and department leads.
  • Maintain a rolling forecast, refreshed monthly, incorporating headcount, compensation, professional fees and other operating costs.
  • Maintain a management company cash forecast, monitor liquidity and runway, and provide early notice of anticipated funding requirements.
  • Coordinate payroll, benefits and compensation accruals with the external payroll provider and the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Document written procedures for every recurring task so that the function is repeatable and transferable.
  • Maintain appropriate segregation of duties, approval thresholds and authorisation controls proportionate to the size of the firm.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or automate recurring processes, and implement changes in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Own sales and use tax compliance for the management company, including monitoring nexus, maintaining registrations and preparing and filing periodic returns in all applicable jurisdictions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five to ten years of accounting experience, gained in a corporate, fund or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated end to end ownership of a general ledger and a monthly close cycle, including preparation of financial statements.
  • Strong accounts payable and accounts receivable fundamentals, including vendor management and Form 1099 reporting.
  • Substantive experience with intercompany accounting across multiple related entities, including loan tracking, interest accrual and reconciliation.
  • Experience preparing operating budgets, rolling forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills, and working familiarity with a modern accounting technology stack such as QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Ramp and a third party payroll platform.
  • A high standard of accuracy and a disciplined, methodical approach to recurring work carried out at volume.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Certified Public Accountant, or active progress toward certification.
  • Accounting foundation at a Big 4 or mid tier accounting firm.
  • Prior experience at an investment manager, asset manager or other financial services organisation.
  • Familiarity with management fee mechanics, expense allocation between a manager and its funds, and partnership level accounting concepts.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT

We are committed to diversity and inclusivity in our hiring practices.
