This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations team at Blue Origin. This role will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems, ensure stringent quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics specific to Production/Operations. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, skilled in resource management, and committed to high-quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance production timelines. Leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies, you will contribute to improving manufacturing techniques, ensuring Blue Origin's continued innovation and excellence in aerospace engineering.

Position Specific Details:

  • Shift: A | Mon-Thu (5:00am-3:30pm)
  • Location: Space Coast, FL
  • Relocation: Available
  • Potential travel up to 10% of the time for training and other support activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the industrialization of new products in areas such as solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures.
  • Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), design for test (DFT), key to building reliable vehicles for space exploration.
  • Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes that support Blue Origin's mission.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate building a road to space.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (e.g., composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly).
  • Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances; develop and implement corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
  • Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001), supporting a safe and sustainable future in space.
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
  • Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction, optimizing our ability to achieve our mission at scale.
  • Gain expertise in at least one key specialty area (solar arrays, integration and test, build flow/sequencing, avionics, structures, etc.), with the desire to deepen expertise and broaden impact.

Team Focus & Domain Expertise

Lunar Mission Operations plays a crucial role in the successful deployment and operation of the Transporter vehicle. As a key component of our mission, Lunar Ops ensures that the Transporter vehicle is not only developed and assembled to the highest standards but also thoroughly tested and prepared for its lunar journey. This division collaborates closely with engineering, quality assurance, and logistics teams to guarantee that Transporter vehicle meets all mission requirements and performs flawlessly in the challenging lunar environment. Their expertise and dedication are instrumental in making the Transporter vehicle a pioneering success and a cornerstone for future lunar exploration initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role
  • 3+ years of experience creating English work instructions
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed. Open to work extended hours if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification.
  • Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or other high-reliability industries, with primary expertise in mechanisms, custom machine design (motors, actuators, linear rails, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings), and complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficient in CAD and FEA-based analysis software for mechanisms and structural applications (Creo and ANSYS Workbench preferred; experience with FEMAP, NASTRAN, NX Advanced Simulation, ProE Simulate/Mechanica).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed hand calculations, freebody diagram creation, and complex FEM/structural analysis.
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), including transition from development design to production.
  • Working knowledge of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing, including GD&T, tolerance/stack-up analysis, FMEA, and common manufacturing processes (CNC machining, manual mills/lathes, welding, sheetmetal, lifting/rigging, inspection, assembly).
  • Hands-on experience with assembly and integration of aerospace vehicles and subsystems, especially those involving mechanisms, tubing, harnesses, tanks, and fluid systems.
  • Experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and/or testing of mechanism components.
  • Familiarity with advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning) and use of manufacturing automation and digital work instructions.
  • Proficiency with PLM/PDM/MRP systems, including Windchill and Teamcenter.
  • Experience working with Bill of Materials (BOM) and BOM reconciliation for complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with industry standards related to mechanisms/structural work (such as ASME BTH-1, ACI 318, JSC-65289, NASA SP-8077).
  • Ability to support requirements generation in Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and assist with Interface Control Models (ICMs).
  • Hands-on experience working in cleanroom environments (ISO 8 preferred).
  • Prior involvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) or transition to production.
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Ability to mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers and technicians.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on collaboration and customer satisfaction.
