About the Team:
Software Applications Engineer(s) with 5+ years' experience building cloud based web services. We work mainly in Ruby on Rails, but we're interesting in finding high quality software engineers using other object-oriented languages.
You'll need to demonstrate a passion for your craft, be self-motivated and eager to engage in high impact, challenging, engineering problems while continuously raising the standard of quality in our products and services in a full solutions-oriented PaaS environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop new functionality for the product
  • Improve and refactor test automation frameworks
  • Implement new test cases and test step definitions
  • Support, Debug, and troubleshoot complex issues, assist with root-cause analysis, and provide solutions
  • Define automation test strategy, structure, and methodology
  • Analyze use cases and test scenarios in conjunction with Business and Software Quality Assurance Analysts
  • Capability to develop scalable, highly performant code
  • Works collaboratively as part of the development team with product managers, UI engineers and UX designers, in an agile environment
  • Ability to debug and analyze issues in a distributed SOA environment to find root causes and make technical impact assessments.

Your Competencies:
  • Basic understanding of clinical research (pharma, device and/or biotech sectors) and of Clinical Research SaaS technology
  • Able to demonstrate good verbal/written communication combined with some organizational skills
  • Exhibits time management skills combined with strong collaboration and team-building awareness
  • Experience in supporting project teams and meeting project timelines would be advantageous
  • Self-motivated and able to assume responsibility in a professional manner
  • Can demonstrate some computing skills and has experience with MS Office suite, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Your Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science or Software development related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years C#.NET, ASP.NET Webforms and/or MVC and Microsoft SQL
  • 5+ years experience with Object Oriented analysis and design
  • 1+ years using AI software development tools i.e. Github Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, etc. Plus ChatGPT, Gemini,Copilot, etc. to accelerate development and your work
  • 1+ years experience with Docker containers / kubernetes
  • Ability to effectively critique other's code in Pull Requests
  • Capacity to refactor code
  • Experience with unit test frameworks
  • Ability to write acceptance criteria for features in simple business language
  • Experience with complex SQL queries and database performance issues
  • Use of a distributed source control system (such as Git)
  • Experience with BDD and TDD and ability to apply appropriate design patterns preferred

As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in Iselin, NJ is $114,750-$153,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses. Salary Pay Transparency
Compensation for the role will be commensurate with experience. The total expected compensation range will be between $114750 and $153000, representing the base salary (or annualized salary based on estimated hourly compensation) and target bonus.
