The City of Greensboro is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Transfer Station Disposal Heavy Equipment Operator to support daily operations at the Transfer Station. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient solid waste disposal services while ensuring safe and compliant work practices. As a Transfer Station Disposal Heavy Equipment Operator, you will operate and maintain heavy equipment essential to waste handling and site operations. About the Role:
The Transfer Station Disposal Heavy Equipment Operator must:
  • Have knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of heavy equipment; be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; have the ability to learn a variety of semi-skilled and skilled construction and maintenance tasks, practices, methods, mathematical calculations, and materials used in general construction and maintenance work; ability to learn safe work practices and report any potentially unsafe conditions; demonstrate attention to detail and strive continuously to build knowledge and skills; be able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED, with 1+ years of experience operating a skid steer, rubber tire loader, rubber tire excavator, dump trucks, and front-end loaders
    • Or an equivalency of No High School Diploma/GED, but at least 2 years of education and 5 years of experience operating a skid steer, rubber tire loader, rubber tire excavator, dump trucks, and front-end loaders.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • NC SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America) Transfer Station Operator's Certification ("or" the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date).
The following skills are preferred:
  • Experience operating heavy equipment in a landfill or transfer station environment.
