Rotational interns are students or recent graduates who participate in internship programs that allow them to work in multiple departments or roles within a company over a set period of time. These programs are designed to provide broad exposure to different areas of the business, helping interns develop a wide range of skills and gain a comprehensive understanding of how the organization operates. Rotational internships are especially common in fields like finance, engineering, and management, and can be a valuable way to explore career interests and build a professional network.

How does participating in a rotational internship program help me explore different career paths within an organization?

A rotational internship program allows you to work in multiple departments or functions over a set period, offering a broad perspective on the organization's operations. This exposure helps you identify your strengths, interests, and preferred work environments, making it easier to decide which career path aligns best with your goals. You'll also gain a diverse skill set and build a network across various teams, both of which can enhance your long-term career prospects within the company or industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a rotational intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rotational Intern, you need a strong academic background, adaptability, and the ability to quickly learn new concepts, usually supported by enrollment in or recent graduation from a relevant degree program. Familiarity with productivity tools like Microsoft Office, project management software, and sometimes basic data analysis platforms is often beneficial. An exciting career awaits you

At MPC, we're committed to being a great place to work - one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.

Overview:
Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) offers internship and co-op opportunities to high-performing college students who want meaningful hands-on experiences in their fields of study. The following core values guide MPC's approach to doing business: safety and environmental stewardship; integrity; inclusion; collaboration; and excellence. Interns/co-ops work side-by-side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who create value for the company's shareholders. MPC believes that how we conduct our business is just as important as the bottom line.

About the Logistics & Storage (L&S) Organization:
The Logistics & Storage organization is the link between the Refining and Marketing components of Marathon. L&S transports crude oil and refined products to and from the refineries and onto storage terminals for distribution to retail marketing facilities, via pipelines and marine transportation operations.

Logistics & Storage is comprised of four primary components:

Logistics & Storage Engineering (L&SE) - L&SE provides engineering design and project management services to Terminals, MPL, and Marine.

Terminals - Terminals play a prominent role in enhancing life's possibilities by blending, distributing, and delivering quality products in a safe, reliable, and competitive manner.

Marathon Pipe Line Company (MPL) - MPL operates pipeline systems that move crude oil from production fields, other pipeline companies, and offshore platforms to MPC refineries, other refineries, and other pipeline systems. MPL also operates pipeline systems that move refined products from refineries to product terminals.

Marine - Maintains and operates a large private inland petroleum products barge fleet, which is used to ship crude oil, intermediates, and refined products.

The intern/co-op program may consist of any number of work sessions. Multiple sessions give interns/co-ops the ability to rotate between the different L&S components in order to gain exposure to the various business segments and to offer a variety of assignments with increasing responsibility. Intern/Co-ops will gain experience in the 5 phases of the Marathon Project Management Process (MPMP) including Conceptual, Feasibility, Definition, Implementation, and Start-up/Close-out.
