About the Opportunity

Pay range: Starting at $25/hour, with final compensation commensurate with experience.

On-call pay additional -$50/night during the week, $100/day on weekends, 4hr minimum pay at your hourly/overtime rate if you are called in however most cases can be handled over the phone, on-call is on a 3-person rotating schedule

Position Overview

Repairs and maintains company and customer vehicles and mechanical equipment (engines, hydraulic systems, etc.) within the regulations and standards set by DOT (Dept. of Transportation), NYS DOH (NY state Dept. of Health), and DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles) by performing the following duties.


Essential Job Functions

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation to watch and listen for causes of failure
  • Completes thorough documentation of all work performed, condition of the vehicles, parts to be ordered, and work to be scheduled.
  • Diagnoses electrical and computer control devices using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts.
  • Repairs electrical equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles.
  • Completion of fabrication work as assigned, to include; body work, painting, etc.
  • Road service calls as necessary to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment. This includes our vehicles in Franklin County (Malone NY) once every other month on a rotating schedule (travel and hotel are paid by company).
  • Timely communication to Supervisors and Dispatchers of vehicles off road for service and repair. (To include target time for returning to road service.)
  • Road tests equipment and vehicles.
  • Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plan.
  • Operating snow removal equipment.
  • Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed.

  • Minimum of Two (2) years as an Automotive Technician
  • ASE Certified Technician (A1-A8) Not required but preferred
  • NYS Inspectors License is a plus
