UNIT DESCRIPTION:
Labor & Delivery at UVMMC supports our Network and region by performing 2,200 to 2,300 deliveries per year with 11 rooms and 2 operating rooms in-unit. In late 2025, Labor & Delivery, as part of the Vermont Children's Hospital, joined the Golisano Children's Alliance.
INCENTIVES:
$5,000 (taxed) Sign-On Bonus for eligible external candidates. Additional terms & conditions apply. Pro-rated for part-time positions.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (TS-C) is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the sterile field. The Technologist accurately and efficiently anticipates surgeon's needs intraoperatively by applying comprehensive knowledge of operative procedures, Equipment, anatomy and surgeons' preferences. The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) (TS-C) works closely with all perioperative team members during the preoperative, intraoperative, and post-operative care of the surgical patient. The Certified Surgical Technologist will also be required to precept.
In addition to the primary job description above, there will be additional job accountabilities. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Open, turn over, and set up the labor and delivery operating rooms and patient rooms as needed
  • Safety check of operating rooms at beginning and end of shift
  • Open bed warmer set up in labor and delivery operating rooms
  • Inventory and stock labor and delivery operating rooms and clean supply rooms
  • Transport of equipment to and from CSR
  • Cleaning and stocking vaginal delivery carts
  • Emergency equipment daily checks (including but not limited to postpartum hemorrhage cart, precipitous delivery bag, adult code carts, newborn code carts/transport monitor, intraosseous kit, neonatal difficult airway kit)

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma required. Associates degree preferred.
Proof of active and current National Certification as a CST- (Certified Surgical Technologist) or TS-C (Tech in Surgery-Certified).
BLS Certification-Renewed bi-annually or as required by UVMMC.
This is a bargaining union position.
