Title: NAPA Associate I / II / III
Location: Kotzebue, AK
Status: Full Time
Position Summary:
The NAPA Associate is the first point of contact for customers, including retail customers, commercial accounts, and automotive professionals. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service by helping customers find the right automotive parts, tools, and solutions quickly and accurately.
The NAPA Associate is committed to maximizing customer satisfaction through product knowledge, efficient service, and a positive attitude. This position requires maintaining a friendly, professional image in all interactions, both in person and over the phone, while supporting store operations and sales goals.
This position supports broader KICL operations as needed, including assisting in ACE Hardware, lumber sales, boiler parts, and fuel sales to ensure overall operational success and customer service continuity.
This position also reflects and upholds the traditional values of the Inupiat people, including adaptability, honesty, hard work, cooperation, integrity and a commitment to quality in the workplace.
Duties/Responsibilities:
NAPA Associate I
  • Accurately operate computer based P.O.S. system and parts look up systems (e.g., NAPA catalog).
  • Assist customers in identifying and locating automotive parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Price, stock, and replenish merchandise.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the sales floor, stock room, and work areas.
  • Support store sales efforts by providing excellent customer service and product recommendations.
  • Assist with receiving shipments and managing inventory, including seasonal and high-demand items.
  • Ensure back-stock inventory is properly labeled, organized, and accessible.
  • Participate in training to improve knowledge and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrative awareness of loss prevention and proper handling of merchandise.
  • Assist with other KICL operations, including ACE Hardware, lumber, boiler parts, and fuel services as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

NAPA Associate II
  • Include all duties of NAPA Associate I.
  • 6 months of retail and automotive parts experience.
  • Provide guidance and training to new employees as needed.
  • Assist with car rental duties, including pick up / drop off and detailing.
  • Support opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and store security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

NAPA Associate III
  • Perform all duties of NAPA Associate I & II.
  • 12 months of retail, automotive, and related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of automotive parts, systems, and tools.
  • Certified in HazMat (CFR49) or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Deliver products to customers, including local businesses, post office, or air cargo as needed.
  • Assist with inventory control, ordering, and maintaining optimal stock levels.
  • Support store leadership with daily operations and problem-solving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
NAPA Associate I
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn KICL specific store systems.
  • Experience with credit card transaction systems or retail experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 45lbs.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to work productively as a part of a team.

NAPA Associate II
  • Meets all requirements of NAPA Associate I.
  • 6 months' experience with retail computer systems and card transaction machines.
  • Valid driver's license.

NAPA Associate III
  • Meets all requirements of NAPA Associate I & II.
  • Minimum of 12 months' experience with retail computer systems and card transaction machines.

This is a fast paced multi-tasking environment requiring regular attendance of a 40 hour work week. Work may require occasional overtime.
