Summary/Objective of Position:

The Weight Room Coordinator will assist with planning and coordination of Fitness-Focused events and activities. He/She will oversee the operations/development of the Dine College Fitness Center and its equipment. Other job responsibilities will include but are not limited to: training student interns, preparing financial requests, assisting in off-campus student excursions, updating policies/guidelines, researching innovative exercise methods, promoting holistic well-being, and supporting Dine College Athletics and Student Affairs in areas of need.

Description of Essential Functions of the Position

  • Plan, Organize, and Coordinate
    • Plan and organize fitness student events and activities that promote engagement, wellness, and campus involvement.
    • Coordinate logistics for the Dine College Fitness Center with scheduling, operations, and resource allocation.
    • Maintain oversight of inventory such as fitness equipment and exercise supply to ensure availability and proper use.
    • Manage multiple priorities and timelines to ensure programs and events run smoothly and meet established deadlines.
  • Develop and Implement Initiatives
    • Develop and refine guidelines for fitness student programs and activities to ensure safe and consistent participation.
    • Design and implement innovative initiatives that promote student life, plus the integration of new outdoor and fitness equipment.
    • Demonstrate proper use of recreational tools and activities to encourage participation and skill development.
    • Create opportunities for students to engage in safe exercise while learning risk awareness and incident preparedness.
  • Coordinate and Collaborate
    • Collaborate with campus partners, faculty, and staff to support co-curricular programming and student engagement efforts.
    • Contribute to the development and improvement of Athletics Co-Curricular Assessment and Athletic Department policies.
    • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate events, share resources, and support institutional goals.
    • Assist in planning learning workshops, promotional events, and outreach activities that strengthen campus involvement.
  • Monitor and Report
    • Monitor program participation, facility usage, and equipment conditions to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records in alignment with FERPA, institutional policies, and ethical guidelines.
    • Provide administrative and operational support, plus scheduling meetings, maintaining organized documentation, and tracking project progress.
    • Utilize standard office and data tools to collect, analyze, and report information for continuous program improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

  • Associate's Degree in Physical Education, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Fitness, Recreation, or related field.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in Fitness and Exercise.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Fitness, Recreation, or related field.
  • First Aid, AED, CPR Certification
  • Fitness, Recreation, or related field.
  • American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certification
  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certification

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of safety practices, risk prevention strategies, and recovery methods.
  • Understanding of human anatomy, physical fitness, nutrition, and exercise recovery principles to support safe and effective recreational programming.
  • Knowledge of student engagement practices and recreational programming that encourage participation and holistic student development.
  • Understanding of proper equipment usage, maintenance, and safety procedures for bicycles, camping gear, and recreational supplies.
  • Knowledge of campus policies, procedures, the College's PPP Manual, and the Student Code of Conduct to ensure compliance and accountability.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and emergency response procedures related to potential threats or injury.
  • Knowledge of administrative and operational practices, including scheduling, recordkeeping, and program coordination.
  • Proficiency in standard office technology and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and related systems.
  • Knowledge of effective communication and customer service practices when working with students, staff, faculty, and community partners.

Skills:

  • Safe operation of vehicles used to transport large groups for off-campus travel, recreational outings, and program activities.
  • Assessment of student recreational and exercise interests through surveys, data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings.
  • Basic first aid response and management of minor to moderate injuries during exercise and fitness activities.
  • Set up, operation, and basic troubleshooting of audio and visual equipment for meetings, workshops, presentations, and campus events.
  • Proficiency in integrated software systems and Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, Outlook, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Coordination and organization of meetings, recreational activities, workshops, and special events in a professional, efficient manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Recordkeeping, scheduling, and program documentation with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adaptability and effective performance in fast-paced, evolving, and student-centered environments.
  • Knowledge of Navajo Culture and language preferred to support a culturally responsive environment and communication.

Abilities:

  • Ability to conduct basic maintenance on fitness equipment and assess areas of potential replacement/repair.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Position requires above-average physical ability and overall physical fitness to safely participate in and support recreational and outdoor activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move moderately heavy equipment and materials weighing approximately 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to run distances of three (3) or more miles during fitness events and activities.
  • Work may involve prolonged periods of sitting, reading, computer use, standing, walking, and other physical movement throughout the workday.
  • Physical activities may include stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and other forms of moderate physical exertion.
