What is a rooftop?

Rooftop workers are professionals who perform installation, maintenance, repair, or inspection tasks on building rooftops. This can include roles such as solar panel installers, roofers, HVAC technicians, or maintenance personnel. These workers often handle duties like replacing roofing materials, installing equipment, or ensuring the structural integrity of the roof. Their work requires specialized safety training to prevent falls and accidents, as working at heights can be hazardous. Rooftop workers play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of buildings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a rooftop technician?

To thrive as a Rooftop Technician, you need expertise in roofing installation and repair, knowledge of safety protocols, and often a high school diploma or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with tools such as roofing nailers, harness systems, and, for solar projects, experience with photovoltaic installation is common, along with OSHA safety certifications. Physical stamina, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications are essential for ensuring safe, high-quality rooftop work and minimizing risks on the job.

What are some common challenges faced by rooftop solar installers, and how can they be addressed?

Rooftop solar installers often encounter challenges such as working at heights in varying weather conditions, navigating complex roofing structures, and ensuring compliance with local safety and electrical codes. To address these, installers receive specialized safety training, use personal protective equipment, and collaborate closely with electricians and project managers. Proactively communicating with clients and team members also helps ensure each installation meets quality standards and is completed efficiently.

Rooftop roles focus on installing and maintaining roofing systems, often involving safety and structural work. Solar Installers specialize in installing solar panels, frequently working on rooftops but also in open spaces. While both roles require safety certifications and electrical knowledge, Rooftop jobs emphasize roofing skills, whereas Solar Installers focus on solar technology. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right position in the renewable energy and roofing industries.

Job description

Catbird is a welcoming independent boutique hotel that’s full of art, heart, and good vibes. This is what happens when you blur the line between hotel and home and add a hefty dose of counterculture. From thoughtful spaces that seamlessly facilitate work/life balance to the lively rooftop with panoramic views, there's a lot to discover here.

Paying homage to the history of the neighborhood around it, Catbird encompasses a 2,500 square foot, four-bedroom historic home, originally built in 1890, which has been preserved as part of the hotel. The historic Klee House is an ideal space for all your events and celebrations with up to 40 guests. The 2,380 square-foot home has plenty of mixed-use spaces for entertaining.

Rook is your new favorite spot in RiNo, Denver — perched at the top of the Catbird Hotel. Our tagline is “Rounds not Rivals” and we’re looking for people who want to join our down-to-earth crew of cocktail aficionados, slinging classic and playful drinks in a laidback environment. The bar encompasses both an expansive skyline rooftop, as well as an intimate indoor space—we are looking for people who are just as comfortable at a corn hole pit as they are in a cocktail lounge.

The application period will be open for approximately 30 days or until a suitable candidate is identified. We encourage qualified individuals to submit their applications within this timeframe.

The Rooftop Experience Manager is responsible for bringing Rook to life as one of Denver's premier rooftop destinations. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of Rook while curating memorable guest experiences through exceptional hospitality, creative activations, strategic partnerships, and operational excellence.
More than managing a bar, this role owns the entire rooftop experience from the first cocktail served to the last guest leaving at closing. The Rooftop Experience Manager is responsible for creating an environment that guests want to return to, and locals seek out.
This position also oversees beverage ordering and inventory management for the entire hotel, ensuring consistency, quality, and operational efficiency across all food and beverage outlets.
They are an ambassador of happiness, hospitality, and Catbird's unique personality with every guest interaction.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Rooftop Operations
  • Lead the daily operations of Rook to ensure exceptional guest service, operational consistency, and compliance with all Sage and Catbird standards.
  • Maintain a highly visible leadership presence during peak operating hours.
  • Develop schedules that align labor with business demand while maintaining service standards.
  • Manage beverage cost, labor cost, inventory, and departmental financial performance.
  • Ensure opening, running, and closing procedures are consistently executed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards throughout the rooftop.
  • Review daily and monthly financial results, forecasts, and operating trends
  • Ensure accurate point-of-sale procedures, discounts, complimentary items, voids, and financial controls.
  • Maintain required food-handler, liquor-service, and management certifications.
  • Partner with hotel leadership on guest conduct, emergency response, and incident documentation.
Events & Activations - Own all rooftop programming and activations.
Responsibilities include:
  • Partner with Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing, and F&B leadership to maximize rooftop demand, local awareness, private-event opportunities, and outlet profitability.
  • Manage logistics, staffing, timelines, and operational execution for rooftop events, including banquets and catering events that take place on the roof.
  • Evaluate event performance and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Banquets each week during BEO meeting to ensure clear ownership, communication, and execution standards for catered rooftop events.
Beverage Program
  • Oversee beverage ordering for all hotel, manage liquor inventory and purchasing.
  • Develop seasonal cocktail menus in partnership with SRC team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with liquor distributors and supplier partners.
  • Identify opportunities for beverage promotions and revenue growth.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop the Rook team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
  • Hold associates accountable to service, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Build a positive, engaging team culture focused on guest experience.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by leadership.
SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS
  • Success in this position requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and major event dates. The Rooftop Experience Manager is expected to lead during the property’s busiest periods. Preferred schedule is Tuesday-Saturday with the expectation of supporting Rook and rooftop programming through close. Schedule adjustments may be required based on business demands, special events, and seasonal activations.

At Sage Hospitality, how we work matters just as much as what we do. We are guided by a shared purpose to enrich lives, one experience at a time, and a vision to redefine how the world experiences hospitality.

At Catbird, we embrace:

  • Stay awhile - stir things up - Is it a hotel? Is it an apartment? Catbird lives somewhere in the sweet spot between the two. Full kitchens, roomy layouts, and spaces designed for real living — with the perks of hotel life when you want them. Stay a night, a month, or long enough that your coffee mug earns a favorite spot.
  • Where Art, Heart, & Mischief Meet - Catbird was born in RiNo — where murals climb buildings, ideas spill out of studios, and creativity refuses to behave. This is a home base for artists, explorers, and anyone who prefers a little personality with their place to stay.
  • Work when you must. Play when you can - Some mornings are for emails. Some afternoons are for rooftop cocktails. Catbird was built for the modern rhythm — with places to focus, spaces to gather, and just enough freedom to blur the line between productivity and pleasure.
  • RiNo's Living Room - At the center of it all is Catbird Kitchen, café and neighborhood marketplace where locals and travelers cross paths. Coffee in the morning, conversations all day, and a steady hum of RiNo energy from open to close.
  • Rook - Come for the views and vibes. Stay for the chaos and cocktails - Up top, things get a little mischievous. Rook, Catbird's rooftop bar, mixes clever cocktails with classic gameplay. It's not just the home of Halfie-Hour and Beat the Bartender. You can also find pool tables, board-game rivalries, and skyline views that make you forget tomorrow's alarm.
  • Old Bones. New Stories - Just steps away sits Klee House, a small but meaningful piece of RiNo's past woven into Catbird's present. Because great neighborhoods keep their history close — and their stories even closer.

All associates play an essential role in creating welcoming, inclusive environments where kindness, hospitality, and excellence are felt by guests and teams alike. These brandings reflect the unique spirit of Catbird and align with Sage Hospitality's commitment to genuine, meaningful connection.
