Roofing Associate information

Why do people quit roofing sales?

Roofing sales can be challenging due to high rejection rates, irregular income, and the physically demanding nature of the job. Many sales associates leave because of inconsistent pay, pressure to meet sales targets, and the need for strong communication and negotiation skills in a competitive environment.

What is the 25% rule for roofing?

The 25% rule in roofing refers to the guideline that no more than 25% of a roof's surface should be replaced or repaired at one time to ensure proper structural integrity and avoid overloading the building. Roofing associates often assess the extent of damage to determine if the repair falls within this limit, especially when working with insurance claims or planning partial replacements.

Do roofers make 100k a year?

Roofers typically do not earn $100,000 annually, as their average wages are lower, but experienced or specialized roofers with years of experience, certifications, or working in high-paying regions can reach or exceed that level. Factors such as union membership, overtime, and working on large commercial projects can also influence earnings.

What is the difference between Roofing Associate vs Roofing Technician?

How to make $100k in roofing sales?

A Roofing Associate can reach $100,000 in sales by building a strong client base, developing effective sales skills, and understanding roofing products and installation processes. Increasing sales volume, upselling premium materials, and maintaining high customer satisfaction are key strategies. Certifications and experience can also help improve credibility and sales performance.

Job description

MuleHide, a part ABC of Supply, North America's largest wholesale distributor of exterior and interior building products, is looking for a talented, enthusiastic technical professional who loves to build relationships, travel, learn about and teach roofing systems, and deliver world-class service.
MuleHide / ABC Supply is proud to be an employee-first company. In fact, we have won the Gallup Great Workplace Award every year since its inception in 2007, and Glassdoor has named us one of the top 100 best places to work in the country. Be part of a company that recognizes your talents, rewards your efforts, and helps you reach your full potential.
Overview:
The Technical Director for MuleHide is responsible for leading all technical functions across the organization, including technical administrative services, technical field services, warranty and claims support, codes and approvals, specification and systems development, and quality assurance.
This role reports directly to MuleHide's Managing Director and serves as the senior technical authority, accountable for protecting the company's technical integrity, reducing warranty risk, ensuring code compliance, and supporting sustainable growth.
The Technical Director works closely with product management, sales, marketing, and other MuleHide leadership to ensure roofing systems are technically sound, installable, code-compliant, and consistently supported in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Governance:
  • Serve as MuleHide's highest-level technical authority on low-slope roofing systems, assemblies, details, and warranty requirements
  • Establish and enforce consistent technical standards, interpretations, and best practices across all regions and technical personnel
  • Provide strategic technical direction aligned with MuleHide's growth objectives, product roadmap, and risk-management priorities
  • Provide director-level oversight of the technical field organization, including inspection quality, workload management, documentation standards, and regional consistency
  • Act as senior technical advisor to the warranty and claims teams on complex, escalated, or high-risk projects
  • Support root-cause analysis of failures and systemic issues impacting warranty exposure
  • Ensure alignment between field inspections, warranty language, and claims outcomes
  • Direct all codes, approvals, and third-party testing activities for MuleHide roofing systems and assemblies
  • Oversee relationships with organizations such as UL, FM, ICC, state and local code bodies, and third-party testing laboratories.
  • Ensure MuleHide maintains current and competitive approvals that support sales across all regions and jurisdictions
  • Partner with product management to ensure new products and systems are technically viable, code-compliant, and field-ready prior to launch
  • Provide technical input on system design, details, specifications, and installation requirements
  • Support sales and marketing with high-level technical guidance, complex project support, and competitive positioning when required
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:
  • Establish metrics and reporting related to inspection quality, warranty trends, and technical performance
  • Proactively identify technical risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Serve as a key leader in protecting the MuleHide brand through sound technical decision-making

Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop technical managers and senior technical staff across multiple disciplines
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and succession planning for critical technical roles
  • Foster collaboration between technical teams and other company leadership while maintaining technical independence and integrity

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in the commercial low-slope roofing industry. Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing technical teams or programs
  • Deep knowledge of roofing systems, assemblies, details, inspections, warranties, and building codes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives, sales leadership, contractors, and external agencies
  • Experience working with UL, FM, and other third-party testing facilities
  • Ability to travel 10% - 15% of the time
  • Industry certifications (RRC, RRO, PE, or equivalent) a plus

Benefits:
MuleHide values hard work and dedication and rewards its associates with an excellent compensation package. In addition to a competitive pay this role receives a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage - eligible after 60 days, low out of pocket
  • 401(k) with generous company match - eligible after 60 days, immediately vested
  • Employer-paid employee assistance program
  • Employer-paid short term and long-term disability
