JOB DESCRIPTION

Position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines, and power hand tools.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Determine number, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions
  • Select and place rod in forms, spacing and fastening them together
  • Cut rods to required lengths using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches
  • Bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines
  • Cut and fit wire mesh fabric using hooked rods, and position fabric or mesh in concrete to reinforce the it
  • May weld reinforcing bars together
  • Ensure that all reinforcing material is in proper position to receive its intended structural load
  • Place blocks under rebar to hold the bars off the deck when reinforcing floors

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience as an Apprentice or Rodbuster
  • NCCER Certification is preferred but not required
  • Pre-employment craft test, drug screen, physical, background check, and completion of safety training is a condition of employment
  • Must complete work accurately and follow all safety rules
  • Must be familiar with relevant hand and power tools
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Organized and self-motivated

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials.
    • It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
