Job description

Primoris Engineering is currently accepting applicants for Instrument Operators for a project in Lafayette, Louisiana. This is a great foot-in-the-door opportunity for someone who has 1 to 5 years of survey experience and who has a solid understanding of the surveying process.

The Instrument Operator is responsible for providing accurate and precise measurements and survey data to support survey projects, ensuring that all work is carried out in compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role is critical in assisting with the successful completion of energy sector projects such as compressor stations, pipelines, and other infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct precise measurements and survey activities using advanced surveying instruments, such as total stations, GPS systems, laser scanners, laser levels, and other specialized tools.
  • Assist in the establishment of survey control points, benchmarks, and reference lines to ensure accurate and consistent measurements throughout the project.
  • Set up and operate surveying equipment accurately for accurate data collection.
  • Conduct field surveys to gather topographic data, as-built information, and other relevant survey data.
  • Perform calculations and data analysis to generate accurate survey reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction staking plans, including layout and marking of control points, boundaries, and other key elements.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations while performing surveying tasks.
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to validate the accuracy and reliability of survey data.
  • Maintain surveying equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate repairs as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certification in surveying or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a surveyor, rod man or instrument operator.
  • Proficient in operating advanced surveying instruments, such as total stations, GPS systems, laser scanners, laser levels, and data collectors.
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to perform complex calculations and data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of surveying principles, practices, and surveying techniques.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
