The Rockaway YMCA isseeking a Youth Coach who will be responsible for leading a group or team ofchildren/teens in a designated sport and progressive skill development in adesignated sport for the Teen Center: Saturday Night Lights Teen program. TheYouth Coach will promote the enjoyment of sport while improving physicalcompetence, developing confidence, teaching healthy competition and skilldevelopment. 
TeenCenter: Saturday Night Lights Teen program operate Saturdays evenings.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program,by providing close supervision of all activities, and ensuring spaces are cleanand supplies are well maintained.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment thatembraces the diversity of all participants.
  • Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives, goals andlogistics.
  • Schedule team practices and games during Saturday Night Lights TeenCenter hours in collaboration with teen advisor.
  • Create written plans for all practices that are age-appropriate andprogressive. 
  • Provide supervision of the players to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Modify and adapt coaching style to meet the needs of the participants.
  • Teach rules, fundamentals and enhance basic skills. Emphasize teamworkand sportsmanship over winning and the outcome of the game.
  • Encourage a lifetime of participation in sports and physical activity.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules, registration,and the progress of their child/teen.
  • Communicate to parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunitiesthat can benefit them and/or their child/teen.
  • Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe and in properworking condition.  This includesconducting scheduled equipment safety checks.
  • Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion andrecruitment efforts.
  • Provide direction to volunteers or Teen Advisors who are supporting theprogram, when applicable.
  • Inform supervisor on-duty regarding any incident reports that need tobe filled out.
  • Keep a safe and clean activity space.
  • Adhere to all Saturday Night Lights funding expectations andrequirements.
  • Must obtain YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days of start date.
  • Must obtain CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within30 days of start date.
  • Must obtain Child Abuse Prevention within 30 days of start date.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, andspecial events, as appropriate.

DesiredSkills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalentrequired.
  • Minimum of two (2) yearsof experience coaching children/teens sport in a structured setting.
  • Content expert indesignated sport(s).
  • Coaching license in therespective sport preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge ofsporting strategies.
  • Current First Aid / CPRcertification.
  • Knowledge of youthdevelopment stages.
  • Ability to communicateeffectively with members of all ages.
  • Good Communication andInterpersonal skills.
  • Must beavailable to work Saturday evenings.
