Job description

The Granite YMCA is seeking a Rock Climbing Instructor to join our engaging team. This is a great opportunity to build leadership skills and gain teaching experience by helping participants of all ages build confidence, develop new skills, and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
We are looking for an applicant with the following availability: Mondays 4-6 pm, Wednesdays 11 am - 2 pm, Thursdays 4-8:15 pm, and Saturdays 10 am - 2 pm.
Pay Range: $12 - $16hr
Whether you're introducing beginners to the wall or coaching experienced climbers to refine their technique, you'll play an important role in creating a positive and engaging experience in our climbing gym.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead rock climbing classes, programs, and open climb sessions for participants of various ages and skill levels
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging climbing environment for all participants
  • Teach climbing fundamentals, including belaying, movement techniques, and equipment use
  • Explain and demonstrate proper use of climbing equipment and safety procedures
  • Belay participants and supervise open climbing sessions
  • Enforce safety rules and risk management practices at all times
  • Maintain climbing gym operations, including setup, organization, and cleanliness of the space
  • Complete required documentation including attendance, waivers, certifications, and inspection logs
  • Participate in events, competitions, or special programs as needed
  • Follow YMCA policies and respond appropriately to any incidents or emergencies
  • Attend required trainings and communicate scheduling needs

Qualifications:
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • Previous climbing experience required; belay certification or prior instruction experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of climbing safety practices and risk management
  • Ability to lead groups and engage participants of diverse ages and backgrounds
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive and encouraging leadership style
