About usLAEPPLE Automotive is a leading supplier in the automotive industry, specializing in high-quality components and systems for body components manufacturing. Our innovative technologies and efficient production processes set benchmarks in the industry. To grow our team in Detroit, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Robotics Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for scheduled and unplanned installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of plant robotic assembly cells. This role requires a strong understanding of robotics technology, electrical systems, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Robotics Technicians must be willing and able to work any shift and overtime as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Safely and efficiently lead the repair of high technology manufacturing equipment, especially supporting our robotic welding and assembly processes.
  2. Perform troubleshooting activities, implement corrective actions, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure capability for equipment.
  3. Utilize advanced technical skills to install machinery and services.
  4. Read and interpret electrical and controls schematics.
  5. Troubleshoot and repair PLC machine controls.
  6. Respond to work orders and ensure timely resolution of request, with an emphasis on prioritization and equipment uptime.
  7. Inspect and maintain existing equipment to ensure production of quality products which comply with company and customer standards and specifications.
  8. Monitor inventory of items required to perform both schedule and unscheduled installation, maintenance and repair.
  9. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, reinforcing 5S requirements.
  10. Comply with standardized work instructions, recommending improvements as appropriate.
  11. Adhere to Team Handbook, Quality, Safety and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  12. Ensure all safety devices are properly in place, functioning as designed, and utilized.
  13. Adhere to Lockout/Tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and incident reporting standards.
  14. Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  1. Minimum of high school diploma or GED, and advanced technical training in electrical and robotics.
  2. Minimum of five years documented related experience.
  3. Minimum of two years' experience as a Robotics Technician or similar role in automation working in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  4. Preferred qualifications include eight years of documented and related experience and/or completion of apprenticeship program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply information from technical manuals, prints and schematics for installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  2. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, robotics technology, and mechanical components.
  3. Ability to obtain Fork Truck and Crane Safety/Rigging certifications.
  4. Ability to work at heights.
  5. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, including an ohmmeter.
  6. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  7. Desire to work in a team-based, lean-manufacturing environment.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  11. Process improvement mindset.
  12. Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate.
  13. Ability and willingness to work any shift, as well as overtime, as required to meet business requirements.
Physical and Mental Requirements of the Position:
  1. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk and hear
  3. Employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
  4. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  6. The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  7. The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
