Robotics Startup information

What is a robotics startup?

A Robotics Startup job involves working in an early-stage company focused on developing robotic technologies. Roles vary widely, including engineering, software development, product management, and business development. Employees often wear multiple hats, contributing to both technical and strategic aspects. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring innovation, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. It's an opportunity to build cutting-edge robotics solutions while growing with the company.

What are some of the key challenges faced when working at a robotics startup?

At a robotics startup, you’ll often face challenges such as navigating rapid prototyping cycles, balancing hardware and software integration issues, and adapting quickly to shifting project priorities. Teams are usually small and highly collaborative, so you may need to wear multiple hats and contribute outside your primary area of expertise. Additionally, limited resources and tight timelines can require creativity and resilience. Overcoming these challenges offers valuable experience, growth opportunities, and the chance to make a significant impact on the company’s success and product innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a robotics startup, and why are they important?

To thrive in a robotics startup, you need a strong background in engineering, computer science, or robotics, as well as practical experience in hardware and software integration. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as ROS (Robot Operating System), CAD software, embedded systems, and possibly certifications in machine learning or automation is often expected. Problem-solving, creativity, adaptability, and effective communication are critical soft skills in this fast-evolving field. These capabilities are vital because startups require innovative thinking, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the agility to rapidly develop and iterate products.

Job description

Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to a fast-growing AI robotics startup in San Francisco, CA.

Title: Software Engineer - Dashboards & Workflow Automation

Environment: In-person preferred; hybrid or Bay Area remote may be considered

Duration: 6 months with possible extension

Pay Range: $65/hr - $90/hr (W-2)

You'll be joining a fast-growing AI robotics startup at an exciting early stage. The company is building its team and operational foundation, creating an opportunity for engineers who want to have a meaningful impact and help shape how the organization works.

This Software Engineer will help build and maintain the internal tools that keep its operations running. In this hands-on role, you'll maintain and extend internal dashboards, build workflow automation tools, troubleshoot existing scripts and systems, and work directly with the team to identify operational pain points and develop practical technical solutions.

This is an early-career to mid-level engineering opportunity for someone who enjoys working close to the problem, moving quickly, and taking meaningful ownership. You'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on a new team while working in a lean, fast-moving environment.

What You'll Do:

- Maintain and extend internal dashboards used for metrics, reporting, and operational visibility.

- Build and improve scripts, automations, and internal tools that streamline workflows.

- Partner directly with team members to identify operational pain points and improve existing processes.

- Write, debug, and maintain code across existing scripts, dashboards, and internal tooling.

- Troubleshoot issues and identify practical, reliable solutions.

- Ship incremental improvements quickly while maintaining quality and usability.

- Work independently with light oversight while communicating clearly with the broader team.

What We're Looking For:

- Experience writing code in Python and/or JavaScript.

- Experience with dashboarding, data visualization, or internal tooling platforms such as Airtable, internal dashboard frameworks, or similar tools.

- Experience working on a small team, startup, or contract engagement is a plus.

- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects with limited direction.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Clear, effective communication and a collaborative working style.

- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment.
