What is a Robotics Startup job?

A Robotics Startup job involves working in an early-stage company focused on developing robotic technologies. Roles vary widely, including engineering, software development, product management, and business development. Employees often wear multiple hats, contributing to both technical and strategic aspects. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring innovation, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. It's an opportunity to build cutting-edge robotics solutions while growing with the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Robotics Startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a robotics startup, you need a strong background in engineering, computer science, or robotics, as well as practical experience in hardware and software integration. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as ROS (Robot Operating System), CAD software, embedded systems, and possibly certifications in machine learning or automation is often expected. Problem-solving, creativity, adaptability, and effective communication are critical soft skills in this fast-evolving field. These capabilities are vital because startups require innovative thinking, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the agility to rapidly develop and iterate products.

What are some of the key challenges faced when working at a robotics startup?

At a robotics startup, you’ll often face challenges such as navigating rapid prototyping cycles, balancing hardware and software integration issues, and adapting quickly to shifting project priorities. Teams are usually small and highly collaborative, so you may need to wear multiple hats and contribute outside your primary area of expertise. Additionally, limited resources and tight timelines can require creativity and resilience. Overcoming these challenges offers valuable experience, growth opportunities, and the chance to make a significant impact on the company’s success and product innovation.

Job description

Founding Lead Recruiter - Revolutionary Robotics Startup - 27777769

Cube Management is excited to partner with a groundbreaking MIT-founded robotics company that's transforming renewable energy construction. This is a rare opportunity to join as the Founding Lead Recruiter and build the entire talent function from the ground up at a Series A startup that's already deploying robots on actual solar farms.

The Mission

Our client is solving one of the biggest bottlenecks in renewable energy expansion - the massive labor shortage in solar farm construction. With 1/5 of all US solar installed just last year, construction companies simply can't keep up with demand. This company is building giant robots to automate solar farm construction and accelerate the world's transition to clean energy.

The Opportunity

Position: Founding Lead Recruiter
Salary: $150K - $200K + Competitive Equity
Location: San Leandro, CA (4 days in-office)
Team Size: 25 employees scaling rapidly
Funding: $22M Series A backed by Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Energy Impact Partners, and Y Combinator

What You'll Do

Own End-to-End Recruiting:

  • Manage full recruiting lifecycle for 5-8 open roles, primarily in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, software, integration)
  • Partner directly with C-suite executives (CEO, CTO, Chief of Staff, Head of Construction)
  • Source and close top-tier technical talent in a competitive market

Build the Talent Infrastructure:

  • Design and refine recruiting processes, interview frameworks, and documentation
  • Leverage existing tools like Ashby while building scalable systems
  • Create training programs and hiring manager enablement

Shape Culture & Operations:

  • Take ownership of employee onboarding and people operations functions
  • Build employer brand and recruitment marketing strategies
  • Act as a culture steward as the company scales toward Series B
  • Fast-track opportunity to Head of Talent role

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

  • 3-4 years of full-cycle recruiting experience
  • End-to-end technical recruiting expertise
  • Proven track record sourcing engineering talent (mechanical, software, manufacturing)
  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments

Key Qualities:

  • Hustler mentality - excited to wear many hats and build from scratch
  • Stellar communicator - technical precision meets compelling storytelling
  • Low ego, high ownership - direct feedback and collaborative approach
  • Mission-driven - passionate about climate tech and renewable energy

Why This Role is Special

Founding Impact: Build the entire talent function from zero - your processes and culture will scale with the company

Market Opportunity: Massive renewable energy market with clear product-market fit already demonstrated

Technical Innovation: Work with cutting-edge robotics technology solving real-world problems

Growth Trajectory: Clear path from Founding Recruiter to Head of Talent as company scales to Series B

World-Class Backing: Supported by top-tier investors who've built category-defining companies

Direct Access: Work closely with MIT-founded leadership team in a collaborative, in-person environment

Company Culture

This is a fast-moving, in-person startup that values:

  • Low ego, high ownership
  • Stellar communication (technical precision + spirited storytelling)
  • Honest, direct feedback
  • United by big mission and technically interesting challenges

Additional Benefits

  • Visa sponsorship available (H1B transfers supported)
  • Competitive equity package
  • Opportunity to shape company culture during critical growth phase
  • Work on technology that's actively deployed and making environmental impact

Next Steps

This is a unique opportunity to join a mission-driven company at an inflection point. You'll have the chance to build something from scratch while working on technology that's accelerating the world's transition to renewable energy.
