What You'll Be Doing

Closely monitors the patient for complications, administers medications including moderate sedation, documents the procedure, and assist with procedures. IR+PICC nurses also play an important role in communication and patient education both pre and post procedure.

The successful candidate will be able to:

Administering moderate sedation to patients during the procedures

Monitoring patients' vital signs during the procedure and reporting any changes to the physician or other staff members

Preparing patients for procedures by explaining the procedure to them, preparing them for procedure, and setting up any equipment that is needed

Preparing and arranging equipment for cases such as CT scans, ensuring that all equipment is working properly before and after each procedure

Preparing patients for diagnostic imaging studies such as MRI scans and CT scans by helping them position and IV insertions

Preparing patients for interventional procedures such as biopsies and drainages

Perform comfort and safety measures with patients in the radiology department

Respond to emergencies

The interventional radiology nurse will be responsible for patient care throughout minimally invasive, image-guided procedures from the moment a patient is admitted into the radiology department to the time when that patient is discharged to a post-operative recovery area.

Other responsibilities include to start or check peripheral IVs, assess implanted ports, PICCs, and Midline catheter, monitor vital signs, suction patients, and help patients with their personal needs.

Serve as nursing support for all radiology departments located in the hospital.

Undergoes training by the vendor, complete 10 successful sticks to be certified, and maintain 30 successful sticks a year to maintain the certification

Competent in IV access and assisting with IR procedures

Troubleshoots, de-clot obstructed central line catheters

Monitors PICC/MIDLINE and educates staff and patients on prevention of line infection and routine care.

Assist with administrative duties during downtime for the Cath. Lab.

Submits surveillance data for Quality and Infection control

Check the crash carts, suction, and oxygen equipment daily
