Robotics Integrators focus on designing and implementing robotic systems, while Robotics Technicians handle maintenance and troubleshooting. Both roles are essential in automation, but they differ in responsibilities and required skills.

What does a Robotics Integrator do?

A Robotics Integrator is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing robotic systems into manufacturing or industrial processes. They work with clients to understand their automation needs, select appropriate robotic equipment, and ensure seamless integration with existing machinery and software. Their tasks often include troubleshooting, training staff, and providing ongoing support to optimize robotic performance. Robotics Integrators play a key role in improving efficiency, safety, and productivity in automated environments.

What are the most common challenges faced by Robotics Integrators during project implementation?

Robotics Integrators often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless compatibility between different hardware and software systems, managing project timelines to meet client expectations, and troubleshooting complex automation processes. Additionally, adapting solutions to fit unique client requirements and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams—including engineers, programmers, and operators—can add layers of complexity. Staying updated with rapidly evolving robotics technologies is also essential to deliver effective, future-proof solutions.

What does a robot integrator do?

A robot integrator designs, installs, and programs robotic systems to automate manufacturing or other processes. They troubleshoot, test, and optimize robotic equipment, often using programming languages like PLC or ROS, and work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics Integrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Integrator, you need a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering, along with experience in robotics programming and system integration. Familiarity with PLCs, industrial robot controllers (such as FANUC, ABB, or KUKA), CAD software, and relevant certifications like OSHA or safety training is often required. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project needs. These skills ensure seamless implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems in manufacturing or industrial settings.

What is the highest paying job in robotics?

The highest paying roles in robotics often include robotics engineers, robotics directors, and automation executives, with senior-level positions such as robotics engineering managers or chief robotics officers earning the highest salaries. These roles typically require advanced technical skills, leadership experience, and often a master's or doctoral degree in robotics, engineering, or related fields.

Is robotics a dead field?

Robotics is an active and growing field with applications across manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and research. Robotics integrators are in demand to develop, install, and maintain automated systems, and the industry continues to evolve with advancements in AI, sensors, and automation technologies.

How much do robotic integrators make?

Robotic integrators typically earn between $60,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior or specialized roles with certifications in automation and robotics can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $100,000 per year.

Job description

About Company:

JC Automation Corp. (JCA) was founded in 1997 with the mission of filling a gap between technology and regulatory requirements in the life science manufacturing industry. The company offers highly capable resources at an affordable cost to build solutions and execute projects in: Automation, Control Systems Integration, Information Technology, System Integration and Regulatory Compliance.

JCA is a HUBZone Certified Small Business Firm, NMSDC Certified Minority Business Enterprise, and Certified Critical Industry Supplier. It’s mission is to add value by delivering quality services & solutions on time all the time by transforming processes & technology into business advantages.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled Robotics and Logistics Technical Lead to provide specialized engineering leadership for robotic and automated logistics systems. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical authority for the design, implementation, integration, troubleshooting, and validation of robotic and automated material handling systems within a cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

You will own the end-to-end technical strategy for robotics and ASRS capabilities, drive architectural decisions across OT/IT layers, lead commissioning and qualification efforts, and ensure all systems operate at peak performance in full compliance with applicable regulatory and quality standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enterprise Technical Strategy & Architecture: Own the end-to-end technical strategy for robotics and ASRS capabilities; define reference architectures, subsystem boundaries, and interface patterns; set performance and reliability targets; and ensure solutions scale across sites, vendors, and operational profiles.
  • System Integration Leadership (OT/IT/Software): Lead the integrated technical solution across PLC/HMI, safety PLC, robot/ASRS controllers, and WMS/WES/WCS/EMS; establish robust interface control (message contracts, state models, exception handling, recovery); and drive architectural decisions across OT networks, industrial protocols, and middleware.
  • Technical Governance & Design Assurance: Establish and run technical governance (design reviews, architecture boards, readiness gates) for layouts, electrical/controls, safety, and software; ensure traceability from business requirements to test evidence; set engineering quality standards; and approve deviations with risk acceptance and mitigation plans.
  • Commissioning, Readiness & KPIs Oversight: Define commissioning and qualification strategy across multiple workstreams (FAT/SAT, integrated testing, cutover, hypercare); lead complex issue triage and root cause efforts; and ensure throughput, accuracy, availability, and recovery KPIs are achieved before acceptance.
  • OEM/Integrator Technical Oversight: Act as the senior technical authority for robotics/ASRS OEMs and integrators; shape scope and technical assumptions driving cost and schedule; review submittals and change requests; negotiate technical trade-offs; and hold partners accountable for documentation, training, spares, and supportability.
  • Functional Safety, Compliance & Risk Leadership: Own the safety-by-design approach for automated systems (risk assessments, safeguarding strategy, LOTO, E-stops, safety validation); lead hazard closure and safety acceptance; and ensure operational readiness includes maintainability, training, and a reliability plan that sustains performance post go-live.
  • Program-Level Planning & Technical Risk Management: Provide technical leadership for integrated schedules and dependency management across vendors and internal teams; forecast resourcing; identify and retire technical risks early; and communicate trade-offs, contingencies, and decision points to senior stakeholders.
  • Standards, Knowledge Management & Handover: Establish reusable standards and templates (ICDs, control narratives, alarm/diagnostic philosophy, test protocols, as-built requirements); drive a clean transition to Operations/Maintenance with training, troubleshooting playbooks, spares strategy, and clear ownership for sustaining engineering.
