Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our CI/CD and Embedded Software Development Tools team, with a strong emphasis on CI/CD and configuration management. This role is responsible for leading a team that owns the platforms, workflows, governance, and developer tooling that enable scalable, secure, reliable, and efficient embedded software delivery across the GM embedded software development ecosystem.
This leader will combine people leadership, technical depth, and operational discipline to drive strategy and execution across source control governance, artifact lifecycle management, reusable workflows, developer environments, cloud-hosted tooling, observability, and configuration standards. The role requires close partnership with product engineering, site reliability, security, IT and external partners to continuously improve software quality, developer productivity, and platform health.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead and develop a high-performing software tools and platform engineering team responsible for CI/CD, configuration management, and embedded software development tooling.
  • Define team strategy, technical priorities, operating rhythms, and delivery plans for the OPTIMUS platform and related cloud toolchain capabilities.
  • Establish and enforce standards for repository governance, branching strategy, artifact management, secrets handling, workflow reuse, and build environment consistency.
  • Drive platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across GitHub, Artifactory, Azure, cloud agents, developer environments, and supporting applications.
  • Partner with product, IT infrastructure, site reliability, and security stakeholders to deliver new capabilities, resolve systemic issues, and modernize the embedded software development experience.
  • Monitor platform and build health using dashboards and quality metrics, and lead actions that improve developer productivity, build efficiency, and software quality.
  • Support roadmap planning, resource allocation, cross-team alignment, supplier enablement, and user support processes for critical engineering workflows.
  • Build team capability through coaching, hiring, performance management, and clear technical direction.
  • Balance near-term operational support with long-term platform modernization and standardization.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, reliability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused platform delivery.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant experience (5+ years) in software engineering, developer tools, DevOps, platform engineering, or CI/CD systems, including leadership responsibility for complex technical programs and teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams that design, operate, and improve enterprise-scale build, release, developer workflow, or configuration management platforms.
  • Expertise with Git-based development workflows and repository governance in GitHub Enterprise, including permissions, branch protections, standards, and multi-repository development models.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software development workflows, quality gates, and the needs of software-defined vehicle development environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and distributed systems, including scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence considerations.
  • Experience leading teams working with automation platforms such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD technologies.
  • Experience partnering across engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, IT and operations organizations to deliver platform outcomes at scale.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to align senior stakeholders and coach technical teams through change.
  • Experience with Azure services, Azure Virtual Desktop, and cloud-based engineering solutions.

Preferred qualifications
  • Strong experience with artifact management platforms such as JFrog Artifactory and lifecycle management for software build assets.
  • Experience with developer tooling ecosystems such as VS Code, Gerrit, manifest-based build tooling, and related integrations across enterprise engineering workflows.
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog and the use of platform metrics to improve delivery performance and software quality.
