How much do robotic systems integration engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for robotic systems integration engineer in the United States is $157,042.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $167,000.00 and $167,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a robotic systems integration engineer do?

A Robotic Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems where robots are integrated with other technologies and processes. They work to ensure that robotic systems function seamlessly with hardware, software, and existing manufacturing or operational workflows. Their duties often include programming robots, troubleshooting integration issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize automation solutions. These engineers play a vital role in industries like manufacturing, automotive, and logistics, where robotics are increasingly used to improve efficiency and productivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a robotic systems integration engineer?

To thrive as a Robotic Systems Integration Engineer, you need a strong background in robotics, electrical and mechanical engineering, and systems integration, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with PLC programming, industrial robot programming languages (such as FANUC, ABB, or KUKA), and experience with CAD and simulation software are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and address complex integration challenges. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering reliable, efficient robotic solutions that meet client specifications and support manufacturing innovation.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by robotic systems integration engineers when implementing new robotic solutions in manufacturing environments?

Robotic Systems Integration Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless communication between various hardware and software components, adapting robots to existing production lines, and minimizing downtime during installation. Integrating new systems can also require troubleshooting compatibility issues, developing custom interfaces, and conducting extensive testing to guarantee safety and efficiency. Successful engineers work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including software developers, mechanical engineers, and production staff—to address these challenges and deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

What is the difference between Robotic Systems Integration Engineer vs Robotic Controls Engineer?

AspectRobotic Systems Integration EngineerRobotic Controls Engineer
Primary FocusIntegrating robotic systems into production environments, ensuring seamless operationDesigning and programming control systems for robots, focusing on control algorithms
Required SkillsSystem integration, troubleshooting, hardware/software coordinationControl system design, PLC programming, robotics software
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, automation facilitiesResearch labs, automation departments
Common CertificationsRobotics certifications, PLC certificationsControl system certifications, PLC programming certifications

While both roles involve robotics, the Robotic Systems Integration Engineer focuses on integrating and deploying entire robotic systems, whereas the Robotic Controls Engineer specializes in designing and programming the control systems that operate robots. Both roles often collaborate but serve different aspects of robotic automation projects.
