ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Urology in the Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama has opening is seeking a highly motivated urologist to join our Department of Urology as a Robotic and Minimally Invasive Fellow, with a primary focus on advancing expertise in robotic-assisted urologic surgeries.
The fellow will work with all robotic platforms, with significant exposure to Single Port Procedures, advance robotic procedures, and use of the Histosonics robot. They will exhibit leadership and facilitate all Endourology lectures and didactics. The fellow will also be exposed to many complex open procedures including RPLND and Open Cystectomy.
In addition to advanced clinical training, this position also offers an opportunity to join faculty as Clinical Instructor. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching, a strong background in urologic surgery, and a commitment to advancing the Department and field of urology through cutting-edge robotic technology and research.
The fellow will be academically active and publications in major journals such as the Journal of Endourology, Journal of Urology and the Gold Journal are expected.
The fellow will partake in clinical activities in the outpatient setting, including the ambulatory clinic. They will actively supervise resident education and clinical duties at all levels. There will be ample opportunity for multi-disciplinary interaction with genito-urinary medical oncology and radiation oncology, specifically through tumor boards, grand rounds and clinical trial activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical and Surgical Responsibilities:
- Participate in a comprehensive robotics fellowship focused on advanced robotic-assisted urological surgeries.
- Perform a wide range of robotic-assisted surgeries, including but not limited to prostatectomy, nephrectomy, cystectomy, and upper and lower tract reconstructive procedures.
- Work alongside experienced faculty members and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the care of patients undergoing robotic urologic procedures.
- Ensure the highest standards of patient care, surgical precision, and postoperative management.
- Engage in ongoing research and clinical innovation to enhance robotic surgical techniques and outcomes.
Teaching and Mentorship:
- Serve as an instructor for medical students, residents, and fellows in the Department of Urology.
- Lead didactic and hands-on sessions in urology, with a focus on minimally invasive robotic surgery, clinical decision-making, and patient management.
- Provide one-on-one mentorship and guidance to medical students and residents, helping them develop skills in both surgical techniques and clinical urology.
- Supervise residents during surgeries, offering real-time feedback and instruction on robotic procedures and other urological surgeries.
- Participate in clinical rounds, case discussions, and departmental seminars, ensuring the dissemination of knowledge related to the latest advancements in urology and robotics.
Academic and Research Responsibilities:
- Actively engage in research projects related to robotic surgery, clinical urology, and innovation in medical technologies.
- Present research findings at national and international urology conferences.
- Publish research in reputable medical and surgical journals.
- Collaborate with faculty and research teams to explore new robotic techniques and improve patient outcomes.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and strategic planning.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources for trainees.
- Assist in the coordination and administration of the robotics fellowship program, ensuring its continued success and growth.
- Medical Doctor (MD/DO) or equivalent degree.
- Completed residency training in Urology.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Urology.
- Strong interest and passion for teaching and mentorship.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Research experience and a commitment to advancing the field of urology through innovation and evidence-based practices.
