Job description

ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them.

AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward.

As an AMD intern, you’ll be placed at the epicenter of the AI ecosystem, working alongside experts and industry pioneers. You’ll do important work, learn new skills, expand your network, and gain real-world experience on projects that impact millions of end-users worldwide. Whether you’re an undergrad or a PhD student, your contributions matter—and your experience here will be a launchpad for what comes next.

JOB DETAILS:

  • Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada
  • Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time 37.5 hrs a week, either in a hybrid or onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term.
  • Duration:
  • 12 Months: May 03, 2027 to April 21, 2028

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The role we're hiring for is an internship in the GPU Math Libraries team at AMD. In this role you'll be working on the foundational technologies underpinning the AI revolution. You will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from our experts and gain real-world experience developing software. You will be contributing to a software stack used by some of the biggest and most influential businesses in the world, that runs on the world's most advanced computing hardware, and that powers the AI models that are transforming the world around us.

In this role you will be helping us support our math libraries on the next generation of AMD hardware. You will be working with code in C++ and Python, and you will get hands on and dirty with our chips, learning how they work at the lowest levels.

Specifically, you may be asked to:

  • Develop and optimize software in Python and C++, by hand and with support of AI agents.
  • Diagnose and debug problems individually and with other team members.
  • Collect and analyze test and performance data.
  • Configure and support AI agents and other automated software systems.

Requirements

  • Currently in a 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Math or equivalent.
  • Completed one or more computer architecture courses required for the degree program.
  • Coursework on algorithms and software development
  • Proficiency in Python and C++.
  • Experience working on a command line interface
  • Familiarity with Linux OS distros
