Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer โ€“ Automation to support and optimize our automated manufacturing lines in Gainesville, GA.

This is a floor-based role (โ‰ˆ80% hands-on) focused on real-time troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and process stabilization across automated assembly, injection molding, and metal processing equipment.

This is not a design-only or project-only role โ€” this position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and can diagnose and resolve complex automation issues directly on the shop floor.

What Youโ€™ll Be Doing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation, PLC, robotics, and electrical issues on multiple production lines
  • Perform hands-on PLC programming and debugging (Siemens STEP 7 / TIA Portal)
  • Analyze machine faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Support commissioning, startup, and validation of new or modified equipment
  • Optimize processes to improve uptime, efficiency, and quality
  • Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including 8D problem solving
  • Develop and update work instructions, process documentation, and training materials
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Quality
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and IATF 16949 Quality Management System
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications (Must-Have)
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs (STEP 7 and/or TIA Portal) โ€” programming and troubleshooting required
  • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment in a production environment
  • Strong experience with industrial robotics (Yaskawa Motoman preferred; other 6-axis robots acceptable)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Proven ability to perform on-the-floor debugging and root cause analysis
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with vision systems (Keyence, Cognex)
  • Exposure to laser systems (Trumpf, LPKF, Videojet, etc.)
  • Experience with Beckhoff, TwinCAT, Bosch IndraDrive, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with safety systems (e.g., Pilz PNOZ)
  • Experience supporting injection molding or metal processing automation
  • Knowledge of IATF standards and structured problem-solving methods
Education & Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of relevant automation / manufacturing experience
Why This Role
  • High-impact, hands-on role directly supporting production
  • Exposure to complex automation systems and global engineering standards
  • Opportunity to drive real-time improvements in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture with strong technical depth
Key Notes
  • This role is primarily hands-on (โ‰ˆ80%) and based on the production floor
  • Siemens PLC experience is a core requirement for success in this role

What We Offer

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage + EAP and mental health resources
  • Competitive paid time off and flexible scheduling where applicable
  • 401(k) with company match and company-paid life/disability insurance
  • Training and professional development
  • Collaborative culture with direct impact

Why IMS Gear
