  • Position: Barista
  • Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
  • Expected Weekly Hours: Varies, but between 15 and 20 hours per week.  Most shifts are between 4-6 hours.
  • Wage: $17.05 starting, 2% step increase after completion of initial training, typically within 30 working days.

About You

Essential Functions:

  • You're reliable. You show up on time, you don't miss shifts, you're diligent and on task during your shift, you complete tasks assigned to you and are efficient with your time.
  • You have open availability.  We have needs 7 days per week.
  • Produce the best coffee drinks in town. Wow the customer with perfectly extracted espresso, perfectly textured milk, and beautiful latte art.
  • Be authentic and personable when interacting with our customers. We only want the friendliest baristas in town.
  • Be knowledgeable (or teachable) about specialty coffee and excited to educate our customers on flavor and origin.
  • Diligent in accurately processing transactions, handling cash, and multi-tasking.
  • Able to lift and reach for light objects, and occasionally lift up to 50lbs. 
  • Able to remain standing and in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

Required Qualifications:

  • Food Handler's Card (or to be obtained within 3 days of hire)
  • Passion for and/or interest in specialty coffee, ideal applicants are curious and excited about learning more about specialty coffee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Barista experience in a specialty coffee shop.
  • Ability to pour latte art.

Applicant Expectations:

  • Pride in quality of product, quality of service, and cleanliness--unwavering in this regard.
  • Able to follow the direction of your manager; comfortable being held accountable.
  • Willing to work up to 10 hours per shift (typical shifts will be in the 4-6 hour range), though we are often able to accommodate your availability preferences.
  • Note, there is limited parking at all locations--applicants are encouraged to bike commute or use public transit.
  • Willing to work any day of the week is preferred, though we are often able to accommodate your availability preferences.

Benefits: 

  • Employees working 25+ hours/week are eligible for 75% covered health insurance, pre-tax dental, supplemental insurance, two paid holidays, and paid parental leave.
  • All non-seasonal, non-temporary employees are eligible for our retirement program with company matching up to 4%.
  • Employees who work 25 hours/week or more are eligible for long-term disability benefits.
  • All employees are eligible for PTO, overtime pay holidays, paid volunteer hours, and free coffee.

Work Environment:

Cafes: Cafe environments are noisy and hectic and can be open to the elements. The cafe locations may be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

Physical Demands:

Cafe: Cafe employees are required to lift and reach for light objects and occasionally lift up to 50lbs. A cafe employee works behind a counter and may need to remain standing and in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
