Dedicated Onsite Network Infrastructure Engineer

Aldridge is seeking a networking-focused IT professional to serve as a Dedicated Onsite Network Infrastructure Engineer. This Aldridge employee will work full-time at a single client site as the client’s primary onsite resource for network operations, infrastructure support, and technical issue resolution.

Position Overview:

The Dedicated Onsite Network Infrastructure Engineer will be based in Houston, TX and embedded at a client location. This role is heavily networking-focused and requires strong hands-on experience with routed and switched environments, wireless troubleshooting, and Cisco CLI administration.

The ideal candidate can support day-to-day network operations while also assisting with virtualization, backups, servers, security coordination, and escalated onsite support. They should be able to think through full systems, understand downstream impacts of changes, and adapt quickly as priorities shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary onsite networking resource, supporting day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting, validation, documentation, and continuous improvement.

  • Administer and troubleshoot routed and switched environments, including OSPF, VLANs, subnetting, inter-VLAN routing, trunking, port channels, spanning tree, routing tables, and Cisco CLI administration.

  • Investigate performance, connectivity, segmentation, DNS/DHCP, firewall handoff, wireless, and user-impacting network issues; identify root cause and coordinate remediation.

  • Support adjacent infrastructure needs, including VMware/vSphere/vCenter, VM networking, backups, recovery validation, servers, and security coordination.

  • Own onsite triage, documentation, escalation, status communication, and follow-up to ensure a high-quality client experience.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive networking, infrastructure, systems, or advanced field support experience in a complex client, enterprise, or multi-site environment.

  • Advanced hands-on networking experience with OSPF, VLANs, subnetting, routed and switched environments, inter-VLAN routing, trunking, port channels, spanning tree, segmentation, and Cisco CLI administration.

  • Ability to lead complex troubleshooting, interpret configuration and operational outputs, validate changes, assess downstream impact, and communicate remediation plans clearly.

  • Experience with enterprise wireless troubleshooting; Aruba experience is preferred but not required.

  • Experience with VMware/vSphere/vCenter, VM networking concepts, backups, backup validation, and the ability to learn vendor-specific tools such as Cohesity.

  • Strong communication, customer service, documentation, and collaboration skills across client stakeholders, vendors, and internal technical teams.

Must-Have Technical Skills, Prioritized by Role Focus:

  • Networking: OSPF, VLANs, subnetting, routed and switched environments, inter-VLAN routing, trunking, access/distribution switching, port channels, spanning tree, segmentation, Cisco CLI, configuration validation, and change impact analysis.

  • Wireless: enterprise wireless troubleshooting, SSID/authentication validation, roaming, RF coverage, interference, AP/controller health, client connectivity, and post-change verification.

  • Infrastructure: VMware, vSphere/vCenter, VM networking, snapshots, backup topologies, backup policies, validation processes, recovery readiness, and tools such as Cohesity.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Storage technologies, including SAN/NAS, iSCSI, storage connectivity, and performance troubleshooting.

  • VOIP experience, including Cisco voice environments, Microsoft Teams Voice, call path troubleshooting, and network quality considerations.

  • Cloud administration and monitoring tools experience, especially Microsoft 365, Azure, hybrid networking, or SolarWinds.

Preferred Certifications:

  • CCNP or higher strongly preferred.

  • CCNA alone may not be sufficient unless paired with deep hands-on enterprise networking experience.

  • VMware-related experience or certifications, such as VCP

Personality and Culture Fit:

  • Enjoys being the go-to networking resource while supporting adjacent infrastructure needs.

  • Collaborates well across teams and explains technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Comfortable in a fast-changing environment with shifting priorities.

  • Able to work independently, think through full systems, and anticipate downstream impacts before acting.

Work schedule:

  • Full-time, onsite at the client location during the client’s standard business hours; occasional flexibility may be required for after-hours maintenance or urgent incidents.

Additional Requirements

  • Physical ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods

  • Must be comfortable with periodically lifting 25 pounds

Aldridge Core Values:

  • Build Trust – We continuously earn the trust of our partners through genuine, transparent communication, and unflinching accountability.

Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary and Incentive Plan

  • Generous Employer Contribution to Health Benefits Package

  • 401(k) Matching

  • 4 Weeks Paid Time Off per year, plus additional days for community service

  • Ongoing Training and Professional Development Opportunities
