Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Allied Health from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, three years of directly related experience and current licensure with the State of Alabama as a registered nurse; OR bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years of related professional experience in a risk management or quality assurance setting.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Allied Health is highly preferred.

Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabama’s Risk Management department is seeking to hire a Risk Manager.

Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position. Essential Functions

  • Conducts various risk investigations, including incidents, adverse events and complaints; prepares reports on findings to Risk Management.
  • Assists with providing Risk Management services to hospital and clinical departments.
  • Reviews and processes legal requests to ensure HIPAA compliance and records prior to release.
  • Reviews medical records and documentation for potential risk issues.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the Shield reporting system for hospital and clinic incidents.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Researches and reports on patient issues; creates detailed medical summaries.
  • Attends hospital, clinical, and/or campus meetings as needed.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
