Job description


The Registered Nurse is part of a team that will work with several physicians and other health care professionals daily. Primary patient populations include neurogenic (ABI, spinal cord, stroke) and musculoskeletal (amputee) diagnoses. In this challenging role the Registered Nurse will be responsible for completing multi system assessments, provision of patient care ( eg. urodynamics testing, wound care, multiple complex dressings, catheterizations, preparing medications), patient and family education, and ensure the smooth running of the clinic. This will include coordination of clinic activities (room assignments, primary contact for OPC suppliers/activities, code captain/safety officer roles, equipment checks ,supply management ). This role also works with the specialized out patient rehabilitation clinic as a resource for patients coming through these rehabilitation programs. (eg. bladder, bowel, skin, diabetes, BP issues, medications). Provides education for inpatient units in the areas of skin/wound, IV/venipuncture. The clinic Registered Nurse is expected to be involved in clinical studies by completing assessments, documentation and data/specimen collection. 

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Registered Nurse and current BCLS certification 
2. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred
3. International Interdisciplinary Wound Care course and/or S1-3 Canadian Association of Wound Care certification 
4. Recent (minimum 3 years within the previous 5 years) experience in rehabilitation with patients who present with complex physical, cognitive and behavioral/psychosocial issues 
5. Recent (minimum 3 years within previous 5 years) experience in the assessment and management of wounds, urodynamics, spasticity, IV access/venipuncture, pain 
6. Recent knowledge and experience in the coordination of service delivery for an outpatient unit 
7. Demonstrated ability in working with patients, families, peers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, both in the hospital and in the community 
8. Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal 
9. Demonstrated computer skills - email, Meditech , Community Wide Scheduling
