Civil Engineer
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will add new transit service on Chicago’s Far South Side by extending the Red Line—CTA’s busiest rail line—south by 5.6 miles from the 95th Street Terminal to 130th Street. The proposed Red Line Extension (RLE) would include four new stations near 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street.
As part of the RLE project, CTA has partnered with Walsh Vinci Community Partners and Systra—EXP Joint Venture to provide career opportunities that will fuel residents' growth and advancement.
What a day has in store for you
  • Prepares engineering analysis, design, and calculations for all aspects of site civil work including but not limited to site access, grading, drainage, utility networks, and erosion control independently or with plan production support.
  • Coordinates with clients, government agencies, and other project design leaders across multiple time zones.
  • Generates detailed reports to demonstrate compliance with local design guidelines.
  • Active in all aspects of construction document preparation and independently making design decisions.
  • Maintains involvement with projects during construction as needed to respond to RFIs or make design revisions to accommodate unforeseen issues that may arise.
  • Prepares scope and fee estimates on portions of projects or change orders or assists with project procurement on occasion.
What your experience looks like
  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4 – 10 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Proficient in CAD via AutoCAD Civil3D or OpenSite Designer.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively within multi-discipline, remote project teams.
  • Ability to plan one’s own time and manage the time of others, as needed.
  • Ability to problem solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and approach new projects and agencies with sound engineering judgment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Forward-thinking to identify possible technical or schedule constraints at the onset of projects.
  • Ability to travel for 1-2 day site inspection/meeting trips (one trip per month or less average).
The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
