Job Description


Position: Facilities Manager

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Classification: Exempt

Supervises: Contracted maintenance and repair professionals, and any part-time, seasonal help as needed


Scope of work:
Responsible for the daily maintenance, safety and appearance of School facilities and grounds.


Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in a school setting
  • Self starter, adaptable, dependable, entrepreneurial and organized
  • Good interpersonal skills, and able to direct the work of maintenance staff and outside contractors
  • Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions (e.g., instruction manuals)
  • Must be able to use computer technology for word processing, email and internet (google platform)
  • General knowledge of and an ability to operate a variety of tools and power equipment
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and terminology of building trades
  • Able and willing to drive the school's minibus (no CDL required)
  • Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectives
  • Conversant with/knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and building systems/technology a plus


Education/Certification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license

General Responsibilities:

The Facilities Manager supervises and coordinates all maintenance and custodial services for all buildings and grounds occupied by Riverbend School, including the satellite properties approximately one mile away from the main campus. They are on call for facility emergencies, and must be available for occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. The Facilities Manager must be able to walk, stand for long periods, maintain balance, climb ladders, lift up to 60 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach above shoulder level; he/she may be exposed to inclement weather and a variety of cleaning chemicals.

Specific Responsibilities:

Constituent Relations

  • Build collaborative relations with other administrators and be supportive of the faculty of Riverbend
  • Maintain positive relationships with town officials and contractors

Administration

  • Supervises and inspects work of the outside facilities contractors; coordinates schedules and work routines; verifies terms of contracts have been fulfilled before authorizing final payment
  • Manage any part time, seasonal help.
  • Conducts routine inspections of buildings and grounds for maintenance, safety and custodial issues; advises CFO on all issues
  • Performs minor corrective, preventative maintenance on equipment and grounds; implements more comprehensive program of preventative maintenance with external contractors
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, materials and equipment needed for maintenance and custodial work
  • Maintains safety records, including MSDS, OSHA, container labels, etc.
  • Administers building security systems; oversees distribution of keys and fobs and acts as liaison, assisting, coordinating and supporting the school's IT vendor
  • Serves as primary liaison with town safety officials and alarm companies for building inspections the oversight of fire/safety drills
  • Coordinates with administrators to support events with setup and breakdown of furniture, tents, signs, etc.
  • Performs event setup/breakdown, housekeeping/miscellaneous cleanup tasks as needed
  • Advises and/or responds to emergencies on a 24 hour basis as needed

School Culture

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Montessori education; model the Montessori values of grace, courtesy, and respect

Finance

  • Manages the Facilities maintenance budget; makes recommendations for purchase of building equipment and supplies in support of the capital improvement plan and as needs arise

Other

  • Take on other duties as assigned by the CFO and the Head of School
