Job description

Here's The Role

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has been serving Texans since 1934, when the state Legislature tasked us with improving life across the region. Back then, we built the chain of dams that tamed the unpredictable lower Colorado River and brought electricity to rural Central Texas for the very first time.

Fast forward to today, and that mission still fuels everything we do. For nearly a century, we've been finding new ways to enhance the lives of the Texans we serve. Now we're looking for the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and changemakers to help us write our next chapter.

We have an opening for a junior or rising senior with an Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering background to work as a power plant engineering intern for the summer of 2027 in the Austin, TX area.

  • Relocation stipend is available to help cover the cost of area housing during the summer.
How You’ll Contribute
  • Perform a variety of progressively responsible engineering assignments involving engineering principles, under the limited supervision of a licensed professional engineer
  • Contribute to engineering projects involving adaptations and modifications to Power Plant systems, equipment, materials and procedures.
  • Contribute to tests and diagnosis and evaluation of equipment performance for power plants.
  • Prepare reports, operating instructions and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Follow appropriate business procedures, and apply project management techniques.
How You’re Qualified
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college program in junior year or has completed junior year and will be starting senior year.
How You’ll Stand Out

This is a dynamic intern experience. LCRA highly values individuals who actively seek out and engage with others, both inside and outside their area of expertise, to grow their knowledge and experience.

Depending upon business needs, candidates with varying levels of qualifications and experience may be selected for further consideration, and successful candidates may ultimately be offered a position at a level which differs from the advertised position.

How We’ll Support You
  • Meaningful, hands-on experience, mentorship from industry leaders, and competitive pay, plus access to perks like a 401(k) and EAP.
Equal Opportunity Employer
  • LCRA provides equal employment opportunities and a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. All employment decisions at LCRA are based on business need, job requirement and individual qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, or veteran status in accordance with applicable federal and state legal requirements governing nondiscrimination in employment.
  • LCRA is committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to job applicants with physical or mental disabilities. Applicants with a disability who require a reasonable accommodation for any part of the application or hiring process can contact LCRA Human Resources (512) 578-4004 or email lcra.benefits@lcra.org. Reasonable accommodations will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
