Join our team as a Cashier and play a key role in providing outstanding customer service to students, employees, and visitors. In this position, you will process a variety of payments, assist customers in person, by phone, and via email, and help ensure the accurate handling and balancing of daily financial transactions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment while performing cashiering, clerical, and customer support duties. Experience with cash handling, basic bookkeeping, and Microsoft Office is preferred.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, provide cashiering services for the College. Duties include but are not limited to assisting customers in person, on the phone, and via email. Take student fee and other various types of payments; assist with questions and inquiries; and perform other general clerical duties for assigned area.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • May open and/or close the office ensuring everything is turned off and secure.
  • Collect and post various types of customer and student payments.
  • Process coin copier deposits.
  • Balance and close multiple cashiering sessions.
  • Prepare bank deposits and assemble deposits for the courier.
  • Process, print, and prepare for mailing AP, Payroll & Student Refund checks; includes pulling checks marked for pick up and notifying appropriate parties.
  • Monitor and track checks received by Finance.
  • Answer phones, emails, perform data entry, and filing to support activities within the Cashier's Office.
  • Confer with other College departments and students on student account charges, financial aid and tuition refunds.
  • Assist with training of new cashiers.
  • Assist Auxiliary Cashier Specialist in processing auxiliary payments as needed.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related cashiering/banking and clerical work experience including typing, filing, and word processing; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and cash handling.
  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.
  • Skill in organizing and problem solving.
  • Ability to be accurate, detailed oriented, self-motivated, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work Office hours from 8am to 6:30pm.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.

To perform this job successfully, the employee must possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
