What is a Rive?

A Rive job typically involves working with Rive, a design and animation tool used to create interactive vector animations for apps, games, and websites. Professionals in this field often design animations, implement motion graphics, and integrate them into digital products. They may work as motion designers, UI/UX animators, or developers specializing in animated experiences. Rive jobs require skills in animation, vector graphics, and coding for interactivity.

What is a Rive designer/developer?

A Rive designer or developer is a professional who specializes in using Rive, an interactive design and animation tool used for creating real-time animations for apps, games, and web experiences. These specialists create vector-based animations that can be easily integrated into various platforms and respond to user interactions. Rive designers often collaborate with developers to bring interactive UI elements and animations to life, enhancing the user experience in digital products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rive designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rive Designer, you need strong skills in animation, vector illustration, and interactive design, often supported by experience with motion graphics and a portfolio of digital work. Proficiency in using the Rive app, knowledge of state machines, and familiarity with integrating Rive assets into platforms like Flutter or web applications are important. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication with developers and team members are standout soft skills. These abilities ensure engaging, high-quality interactive animations that integrate smoothly into digital products, enhancing user experience.

How do Rive designers typically collaborate with developers during the animation integration process?

Rive designers often work closely with developers to ensure that interactive animations are smoothly integrated into applications or websites. This collaboration usually involves sharing Rive files, discussing animation triggers, and making adjustments based on technical constraints or user experience feedback. Communication is key, as designers must understand the platform’s limitations and developers may request tweaks for performance or responsiveness. Regular meetings and feedback loops help both sides align on project goals and deliver high-quality, interactive experiences.

About Us
UNFOLD is an award-winning digital creative agency based in Los Angeles, partnering with some of the world's most dynamic entertainment and brand clients. We create culturally relevant, digitally driven work that connects audiences and brands across platforms.
The Role
Our Creative Team is seeking a Rive Motion Designer / Developer to help create polished, interactive motion experiences for digital campaigns, websites, product interfaces, and other platform-driven creative. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong motion design craft, hands-on Rive expertise, and enough technical fluency to collaborate closely with engineers.
You should be comfortable building animations in Rive, understanding how State Machines work, and structuring animation logic so it can be implemented cleanly. While this is not a full engineering role, you should understand implementation needs, communicate clearly with developers, and help route animation behaviors from design intent through production.
Here's What You'll Do
Motion Design & Rive Production
• Design and build high-quality interactive animations using Rive.
• Translate creative concepts into motion systems that feel intuitive, responsive, and polished.
• Prepare animation files with organized states, inputs, transitions, and reusable structures.
State Machine Logic & Interaction Design
• Build and manage Rive State Machines to support interactive behaviors and animation routing.
• Think through how animations respond to user actions, product states, and interface needs.
• Partner with engineers to ensure animation logic is understandable and implementation-ready.
Creative Collaboration & Implementation Support
• Work closely with designers, creative leads, and developers to bring interactive concepts to life.
• Communicate technical considerations clearly without overcomplicating the creative process.
• Support QA by identifying animation issues, interaction mismatches, or implementation gaps.
Here's What It Takes
• Strong portfolio showcasing motion design, interactive animation, and Rive work.
• Hands-on experience creating Rive animations with State Machines, inputs, transitions, and interaction logic.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers and understand how animations are implemented in digital products or web experiences.
• Strong motion design fundamentals, including timing, easing, hierarchy, and visual polish.
• Familiarity with digital design workflows and tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
• Agency, entertainment, gaming, streaming, or brand campaign experience preferred.
